The German Experience: My friend and I

explored German culture

Got visited by an American friend

2014

Went to numerous cities and

learned a lot about German history
and culture

Picture: My friends first time using

public transportation in Germany

My Hometown: Schwetzingen

Town with about 30,000 inhabitants

Popular for its Castle and Castle Gardens

Located in south-western Germany

Heidelberg: A Historical City

Heidelberg is famous for its castle

and old town

Founded in 1196

My friend and I lived in my

apartment in Heidelberg and spent
a lot of time there

Berlin: The Capital City

Traveled to Berlin

Went to various places, among them the Jewish Museum, the Cathedral, Bundestag (German
Parliament), and Brandenburger Tor

German Impressions

Germany in Utah

To share some of my knowledge

with friends and to compare
Germany and Utah I created a
German-American discussion group

Our motto: Germany meets

Utah/America

German Recipes

Because an important part of every

culture is food we tried to cook
some typical German meals

I had my family send some German

candy to me

Made the experience that German

food in America tastes different
than in Germany

German Language

German is spoken not only in Germany, but also in Austria, and parts of
Switzerland

One important difference between Germany and the United States is

the language

Since many people were interested in speaking German, I created a

basic German lesson
The next slides shows some of the expressions that we were practicing
together
