EAW COURSE OUTLINE

Course Objectives The objectives of this course are to produce


students who can :
1) use the language for research writing
2) apply critical reading skills when reading
academic texts
3) use appropriate techniques in citing sources

Course synopsis
This

course is designed for students to experience


a step-by step approach in writing academic
research paper through critical reading and
thinking. Students are also required to present
their findings using multimedia presentation

FINAL EXAM ( 40 % ) SPECIFICATION

Identify main ideas

List supporting details

Quote a sentence to support a given idea

Paraphrase a line to support a given idea

Summarize a paragraph to support a given idea

Write an opinion based essay ( around 350 words ) on the


topic given that is related to the three passages using 3
out of 4 citation techniques learned

Term Paper

FORMAT : Times New Roman, Font 12

APA FORMAT ( 6th Edition )

Opinion-based ( full agreement / partial agreement ).

Number of pages- 8 to 12 pages ( 2,000 -2,500 words )

Intro about 1 page, Body 1 to 2 pages

At least 6 sources within 8 years range (2008 onwards)

Academic materials only and academic language


expression

Term Paper

Introduction ( thesis statement with three main ideas ),


three main ideas + supporting details (must be well
supported using evidence from research articles ) and
conclusion

Pair work

(Compulsory) Islamic perspectives ( support using hadith,


translation from Quran or ideas ) can be written in any
section of the paper.
