Samsung had a 40% share in smartphones, by value and volume, in the same period
of 2015. "We had an overall market share of48.6%in the first quarter of 2016," said
Manu Sharma, director-mobile business at Samsung India, at the launch 2016 editions
of Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J5 Economic Times, May 2016
India shipped 52.8 million handsets in the January-to-March period compared with
55.4 million a year earlier.
The number declined 12.8% from 60.5 million in the quarter ended December. Sales of
feature phones declined 17% sequentially and 19% on year to 29.2 million units in the
quarter. Samsung led with a 28% share in the world's fastest-growing smartphone
market, followed by Micromax with 16% and Intex with 12%.The No. 4 position was
taken by Lenovo with 9% market share CyberMedia Research, Apr 2016
Samsung also led the overall market with a 25% share, followed by Micromax (13%)
and Intex (12%). The market share of Chinese and other global brands declined by a

Samsung continues to dominate high-end smartphone category in India with a market
share of 44%, with Apple as second with 27.3%, even as new entrants like One Plus
created a wedge in the market with a 6% share. CMR, June 2016

Samsungcontinued to lead the Indian smartphone market with marginal
sequential growth but a higher share gain in 2015Q4 accounting for 26.8
percentage share of shipments. Samsungs Jseries led the show for the vendor
contributing to over 2/3rdof its total shipments
Micromaxmaintained the second position with 14.1 percent share in 2015 Q4 but
shipments fell 12.1 percent year-over-year and 23.5 percent over previous quarter.
Lenovo including Motorolapipped Intex to acquire the third position with a
market share of 11.6 percent. Lenovo shipments almost tripled year-over-year in
2015 Q4 ending the year on a good note. The K3 Note continues to be the top
selling model for Lenovo.
Intexfell to the fourth position, although shipments grew 40.9 percent in 2015 Q4
over the same period last year. The primary volume driver for Intex continues to
come from 3G based devices in sub-US$100 segment.
Lavawith a healthy 20 percent year-on-year growth continued to manage its place
in the top five in highly cluttered Indian smartphone market.

Samsungcontinued to dominate the Indian smartphone market with 26.6
percent share, in spite of shipments dipping both year-on-year and sequentially
(quarter-on-quarter).
Micromaxretained second position in Q1 2016 with 6.9 percent growth over
the same period last year. With new branding and array of new products
announced in Q2 2016, the vendor is likely to recover in coming quarters.
Intexregained its 3rdposition, although shipments sequentially declined by 10
percent in Q1 2016 but grew marginally over last year. Intexs 4G shipments
almost doubled over the previous quarter strengthening its portfolio with over
15 active LTE models.
Lenovo(including Motorola)slipped to fourth position as the shipments
declined 35.8 percent coming off from a sharp spike in the previous quarter.
However, the vendor is likely to see some recovery with the launch of K4 Note
and the next generation Moto G in Q2 2016.
Reliance Jioreplaced Lava as the fifth largest smartphone vendor with huge
shipments of 4G devices..

Samsungcontinued to lead the Indian smartphone market with 25.1 percent share,
registering 10.9 percent sequential growth over previous quarter and 15 percent growth
from the same period last year.
Micromaxretained second position with 19.9 percent growth over the previous quarter.
Vendor has re-gained share in $150-$200 segment with launch of Canvas 6 series and
Yu Yunicorn.
Lenovo Group(including Motorola)with 10.3 percent growth over the last quarter,
vendor regained the third position in Indian Smartphone market.Lenovo Group has
extended its presence in the retail contributing to approximately one-third of its
shipments.
Intexslipped to fourth position in Q2 2016 as its shipments dropped 9.8 percent
sequentially and 30.1 percent over last year. However, In Q2 2016, Intexs cloud series
helped Intex to gain a significant share in the online segment.
Reliance Jiomaintained its position as the fifth largest smartphone vendor with 12.3
percent sequential growth in Q2 2016. LYF devices have entered sub US$50 segment
and bundling introductory offers with Jio services helped it gain strong traction in retail
stores.
