I Wonder Why?

Nuclear waste
In terms of radioactivity, high-level waste (HLW) is the major
issue arising from the use of nuclear reactors to generate
electricity. Highly radioactive fission products and also
transuranic elements are produced from uranium and
plutonium during reactor operations and are contained within
the used fuel.

Types of Nuclear waste

There are three types of solid nuclear wastes classified in
terms of its radioactivity (i.e. low, intermediate and high-level
wastes). Low-level waste (LLW) consists of daily refuse such
as paper, gloves, plastic containers, disposable overalls and
overshoes with low radioactive contamination

Types of Nuclear radiation

Types of Nuclear Radiation. There are several types of
particles or waves that may shoot out of a radioactive
nucleus. Alpha particles, beta particles, gamma rays, and
neutrons are the most common forms of ionizing (i.e.
dangerous) radiation.

How do you die from Nuclear radiation

Large doses of ionizing radiation in a short time period lead to Acute Radiation
Syndrome (ARS), aka radiation poisoning. The severity of ARS symptoms depends
on the level of exposure. A radiation dose as low as 0.35 Gy could feel a bit like you
have the fluexpect nausea and vomiting, headaches, fatigue, and fever. If the
body is exposed to a higher dose, somewhere between 1-4 Gy, blood cells begin to
die. You could still recovertreatment of this kind of radiation syndrome usually
involves blood transfusions and antibioticsbut you could also suffer a weakened
immune response due to a drop in white cell count, uncontrollable bleeding due to
a lack of platelets, and anemia due to a reduction of red blood cells. You'll also
notice a kind of odd sunburn if exposed to 2 Gy or more of ionizing radiation.

Nuclear Disaster
The Chernobyl disaster, also referred to as the Chernobyl accident or simply
Chernobyl, was a catastrophic nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at
the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the city of Pripyat, then located in the
Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic of the Soviet Union (USSR). An explosion and
fire released large quantities of radioactive particles into the atmosphere, which
spread over much of the western USSR and Europe. The Chernobyl disaster was
the worst nuclear power plant accident in history in terms of cost and casualties.[1]
It is one of only two classified as a level 7 event (the maximum classification) on
the International Nuclear Event Scale

Nuclear Disaster
the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in
Japan in 2011.[2] The struggle to contain the contamination
and avert a greater catastrophe ultimately involved
over 500,000 workers and cost an estimated 18 billion rubles.
[3]
During the accident itself, 31 people died, and long-term
effects such as cancers are still being investigated
