1.WHAT IS CLIENT SERVER ACHITECTURE?

The relationship of cooperating programs in an

application.
A network architecture in which each computer
or process on the network is either a client or a
server.
Servers are classified by the services they
provide. For instance: a web server serves web
pages and file server serves a computer files.

This is the example

of client server ach
in diagram form.

1.1 Advantages of server clients

Proper Management: All the files are stored at the same place. In
this way, management of files becomes easy. Also it becomes easier
to find files.
Back-up and Recovery possible: As all the data is stored on server
its easy to make a back-up of it.

Upgrade and Scalability in Client-server set-up: Changes

can be made easily by just upgrading the server.
Accessibility: From various platforms in the network,
server can be accessed remotely.
Security: Rules defining security and access rights can be
defined at the time of set-up of server.

1.2. Disadvantages of Client Server Architecture

Congestion in Network: Too many requests from the clients
may lead to congestion, which rarely takes place in P2P
network.
Client-Server architecture is not as robust as a P2P and if
the server fails, the whole network goes down.
Cost: It is very expensive to install and manage this type of
computing.
You need professional IT people to maintain the servers
and other technical details of network.

2. Type of information system:

Management
information
System (MIS)
Eexecutive
support
systems (ESS)

Transaction
Processing
Systems (TPS)
Office Automation
Systems (OAS)

Decision Support
System (DSS)

Expert systems

Knowledge Work
Systems (KWS)

Management
information
system (MIS):

A management information system

(MIS) is a computerized database of
financial information organized and
produces
regular
reports
on
operations for every level of
management in a company.

Decision Support
System (DSS):
A decision support
system (DSS) is a
computer program
application
that
analyzes
business
data and presents it
so that users can
make
business
decisions
more
easily

Used by management
to assist in making
decisions on issue
which are subject to
high levels of
uncertainly about the
problem, the various
responses which
management could
undertake or the likely
impact of those
actions.

Expert Systems are a computer

program that captures human
expertise in a limited domain of
knowledge
Expert system:
E.g Check the facts given against
its database to see whether the
applicant has a good previous
credit record in financial system.

Knowledge Work Systems (KWS):

Knowledge Work Systems
(KWS) are information
systems that facilitate the
creation and integration of
new knowledge into an
organisation
E.g: Spreadsheets
financial software that
analyses trading
situations

Office Automation
Systems (OAS):

Office Automation Systems (OAS) is

computer systems designed to increase
the
productivity
of
data
and
information workers
E.g: Word processing, desktop publishing,
and digital filling systems.

Transaction Processing Systems (TPS):

Transaction processing is a style of computing

that divides work into individual, indivisible
operations, which we called transactions.
E.g: Sales system, finance system, and so on

Executive support
systems (ESS):

This is the management information

system that facilitates and support
senior executive information and
decision-making need. It also provides
easy access to internal information
relevant to organizational goals. It is
commonly considered as specialized
form of decision support system.
