AN AUTOMATED ACCESS CONTROL

IN COMPUTER LABORATORY USING

ABALORIO, CRISTOPHER C.
RFID SYSTEM
BEROL, LAMPEL B.

Inphysical security, the term access control refers to the practice of

restricting entrance to a property, a building, or a room to
authorizedpersons through mechanical means such as locks and
keys, or through technological means such as access control systems
like themantrap. Within these environments, physical key
managementmay also be employed as a means of further managing
and monitoring access to mechanically keyed areas or access to
certain small assets. An information system can implement access
control systems at different levels.

Access control is concerned with determining of legitimate

users, mediating every attempt by a user to access a
resource in the system (Vincent, et al., 2006). There are
different basis of Access Control according to AI-Fedaghi, et
al, 2012 which data protection legislation requires handling
of Personal Identifiable Information (PII) in special ways to
guarantee privacy.

The gap of the study is the controlling of the personal

identifiable information in implementation of the access
control. Legitimate users of a system attempting to access
the resource are being monitored through a system. The
notion of the study is to be implemented through a system
being integrated with proximity cards that accesses rooms.

The concept of automated access control is brought about using

a card, a corresponding card reader and a control panel
interfaced with the server. The card has a unique identification
number integrated in it. The reader reads the data through radio
frequency (RF), and sends it to the control panel which is the
micro controller. This controller checks the validity of the data
with the server, which bears the database. This is called the
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system that restricts
instructors upon accessing the rooms through the policy set
forth which is Role-based access control.

Project Objectives
This research aims to design and develop a prototype of an automated access control in computer
laboratory using Radio Frequency Identification System. Moreover, this study seeks the following:
1. To use a relevant RFID technology for the automation of access in computer laboratory;
2. To design an application for eradication of the pandemonium due to classroom inconsistency of schedules;
3. To develop middleware-based that would serve as interface RFID hardware;
4. To record necessary information pertaining to access of the computer laboratories.
