Every week the students are to put in 4 hrs

While the action oriented work can be done
as a whole group, it is recommended that
students work as individuals or in pairs
to increase efficacy of their efforts.

1. Projects been given to groups
2. These spaces are large areas for exploration &
may include many potential solutions
3. The teams focus at this stage is not to try solve
all the issues, but use the space as a source of
inspiration eventually the team will generate
potential solutions that may satisfy some or all
of the needs in the opportunity space.

4. Understanding global trends is imperative to
understand the connect between the local opportunities &
larger / wider issues
5. Starting point the world resources institute global
mega trends will have local manifestations in Mumbai, an
excel file listing sources for sector wise information

understanding of which trends may affect groups

7. After an understanding of the opportunity statement &
related trends, group should make an informal stake
holder map
8. Team should spend time to do background research
into the project area. This research can be secondary
(articles, journals), &/or primary (interviewing
knowledgeable individuals)
9. Goal is to get a baseline understanding of the
opportunity statement

Nov 15 10. The research should enable the group to
answer:
a. who are the major stake holders in the focus area
b. what is the history of this focus area
c. what research has already been done in this area
d. what interventions in this area have already been

11. Group should capture this research in a 2 page
report which should include insights on how the
research relates to the opportunity space

12. After the initial research the group may wish to
update the opportunity statement because
research may have pointed out more opportunities, or
the group may realize that the original opportunity
space was too large or the group may find the
opportunity statement just fine as it is.
13. Once the opportunity statement is refined or kept
as it is the group should develop a plan for
researching & finding inspiration in this area.

what, how, where, & when of the PROJECT
it should include a detailed list of activities
eg. Observing local temporary labor market,
interviewing laborers, researching business engaging

8.Allot at least an hour to discuss the themes & start to


define them.
9. Once the group has identified & agreed on several
themes or patterns in the research, the group should
refine build & combine these into Opportunities.
10. Not necessary that one uses every theme in the
activity, same theme can be used in more than
opportunity, look for themes that work together well &

reinforce a new opportunity

11. Opportunity spaces should be inspirational & wide


enough to have several potential solutions.
12. Opportunity statement should be a simple statement
supported by insights collected. It should not be a
predetermined solution.
13. They should be similar to the original opportunity
statements.
14. Preserve all the research, insights, themes, they will
be used during GCL Model 2
