Resistance
Butt welding
Butt weldingis
aweldingtechnique used to
connect parts which are nearly
parallel and don't overlap. It can be
used to run a processing machine
continuously, as opposed to having
to restart such machine with a new
supply of metals.
Flash welding
Flashbuttweldingis a type of
resistancewelding without using
any filler metal. It is used for joining
two metal parts together using heat
and force. Each of the two parts to
be joined are clamped against an
electrode, usually a copper alloy.
Spot welding
Seam welding
Projection welding
Arc welding
Arc weldingis a type ofwelding
that uses awelding power supplyto
create anelectric arcbetween an
electrode and the base material to
melt the metals at the welding point.
They can use eitherdirect(DC) or
alternating(AC) current, and
consumable or non-consumable
electrodes
Shieldedmetal arc
welding(SMAW), also known as
manualmetal arc welding(MMA or
MMAW), flux shieldedarc
weldingor informally as
stickwelding, is a manualarc
weldingprocess that uses a
consumable electrode covered with a
flux to lay the weld.
Gas metalarcwelding(GMAW),
sometimes referred to by its
subtypesmetal inert
gas(MIG)weldingormetalactive
gas(MAG)welding, is
aweldingprocess in which an
electric arc forms between a
consumable wire electrode and the
workpiecemetal(s), which heats the
workpiecemetal(s), causing them to
Electro-metallurgy
Electrometallurgyis the field
concerned with the processes of
metal electro deposition. There are
four categories of these processes:
Electroextraction, the extraction of
metal from ores. Electrorefining, the
purification of metals.
Electro plating
Electroplating
Electroplatingis a process that
uses electriccurrenttoreduce
dissolved metalcationsso that they
form a coherent metal coating on an
electrode
Electrolytic process
Electrolysisis theprocessby
which ionic substances are
decomposed (broken down) into
simpler substances when an electric
current is passed through them. For
electrolysisto work, the ions must
be free to move. Ions are free to
move when an ionic substance is
dissolved in water or molten
(melted).
