Chapter 3 Brother recalls that the lambs arent supposed to have names, only
horses and dogs are allowed to have names.
What does he mean by that? Why wouldnt a cow, a chicken, a
pig, or a lamb have a name? Write your answer in detail,
using text evidence.
I think that the cow,a chicken,a pig,and a lamb wouldn't have names because the animals usually die
because of sickness that's why I think that ignatius doesn't name the cows,lambs,chickens,and pigs. Also
the animals could get sick and die. Some of the animals look the same so ignatius doesn't want to name
them. The animals could get lost or mixed up.

Chapter 4
Describe why Grandma
spends so much time fussing
with the flag at the door.
I think grandma spends time with the flag because Grandma wants dad to get home
from the army. Also grandma didnt want dad to go. Grandma doesnt want the dad to
die. Grandmas mad because hes gone. Grandmas mad because they forced dad to
go.

Chapter 6
Brother offers to take care of the stock at the Ugarte place. As he offers,
he knows it is the right thing to do, but there could be complications.
Describe the challenges that Brother will need to overcome to help
the Ugartes. Do you think hell succeed at helping them?
1. The challenges are helping customers. Not getting treated right. He doesnt know if he can keep the
promise. He doesnt know if he can take care of the store. Hes thinking if he can get his chores done fast
enough to go to the store and help.
2. Yes, I do think he will succeed because ignatius knows how to get things done.

Chapter 7
Land shapes a man's heart too -Grandpa

My answer is grandpa means it shapes
your heart like on the news but it's the
scenery. My reflection is when I went
hiking and saw the scenery I felt very
happy.

Paco describes what happened to his parents.

What do you think Brother thinks his dad will

return like?
So I think that ignatius thinks his dad will return with a body part missing
kind of like pacos dad with the robotic leg. Just like paco said its very sad
to see something bad happen to the one you love.

Barbed Wire was invented in Illinois.

1.Barbed wire is still used by keeping all of the farmers things like crops and foods
behind the barbed wire. So the farmers can protect those things.
2.It changed it by keeping all of the animals safe so no bad animals will stay out they
usually do it for cows because wolves really like to eat cattle. So farmers put barbed
wire out so those wolves will stay out.

Chapter 10 / End of the

Novel
1. Imagine Brother in 10 years. What does his story look like? Is he in the
Army? What are his Brothers up to? What does Brother do with his life?
Write about the next chapter in Brother's life.
2. The books ends with Brother saying I know the man I'm supposed to
become. Write about the type of man you think Brother will become.
I think brother will join the army. I also think he will work on the farm. Also be a holy
man. Brother will probably be a kind man. He also might be like grandpa and know
everybody and be friends with everybody. That is my opinion of what I think brother
means by I know the man I am supposed to become.
