Introduction

From the U.S Department of Energy (2011), the early

recorded history when people have been harnessing the
energy of the wind was as early as 5000 B.C
According to Wikipedia (2013) Awind turbineis a device
that convertskinetic energyfrom thewind into electrical
power. A wind turbine used for charging batteries may be
referred to as awind charger.

Introduction

The top 5 countries that have the large-scale of wind

power according to New Discovery News (2012) are the
following: (1) China with 67.7 GW of energy capacity;
(2) USA with approximately 60 GW of wind energy
capacity; (3) Germany markets up to 30 GW of wind
energy; (4) Spain had around 22.8 GW of wind energy
capacity lastly (5) India with 19051.46 GW of wind
energy capacity.

Introduction

Philippines may not be in the top 5 wind power

producer, but it can actually produce up to 76 GW of
wind power as stated by Wikipedia (2013).

Significance of the study

The result of this research paper will benefit the
general public particularly to the students, teachers for
their future basis of their research related to this topic
The prospect of wind generation and storage system.

Statement of The Problem

This paper primarily aims to determine the prospect of wind
energy generation and storage system in the Philippines.
Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:
1.What are the characteristics of wind energy generation and
storage system?
2.How does it work?
3.What
are the significant benefits from wind energy
generation and storage system?
4.What are the factors to consider in utilizing wind energy
generation and storage system?
5.What will be the future of wind energy generation and
storage system in the Philippines?

Thesis Statement
Wind energy generation and storage system could
be the best system for having a clean and affordable
alternative source of energy here in the Philippines,
because the Philippines has the capability to collect a
large amount of wind power for being included in AsiaPacific monsoon belt.

Body
Features of wind energy generation and storage system:
According
to Golding (1976), the generation of
electricity by wind power: Wind generators were first
based on the vertical-shafted mill rather than on the
treadmill; a number of radically-mounted sails, pushed
round by the wind, replaced the animal-drawn horizontal
beam. Through the process of innovation each parts of
a wind generator has been given a name.

1.) Foundation
2.) Tower
3.) Nacelle
4.) Rotor blade
5.) Hub
6.) Transformer

BODY
How does it work?
According to US Department of Energy (2013) The wind
turns the blades, which spin a shaft, which connects to a
generator and makes electricity.
Fabula said that the wind energy generator works when
the wind is powerful enough to rotate the rotor blades of
the wind turbine to create a continuous rotation or
movement. The energy storage serves as a placement for
the unused or excess energy (Personal Communication,
December 3, 2013).

BODY
Significant Benefits:
According to GE-Energy Company (2013), integrating the battery
into the wind turbine allows wind farm operators to benefit from
wind energy storage without the high costs of farm-level battery
storage installation.
Ryan (2009) shared thatonce the wind turbine is built the energy
it produces does not cause green house gases or other pollutants.
Moreover, building a wind energy generator farm could be a
government source of income, because of its amazing features,
tourists are attracted to come and take a look for a windmill.

BODY

The European Wind Energy Association (2013)

discussed that wind energy today plays a significant
role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ca be
rapidly deployed in the future. If wind energy
production is increased and other source of energy
production, that emits greenhouse gases and other
pollutants, is decreased, it can cut the greenhouse gas
emission the world is producing currently.

BODY
Factors to be consider in utilizing wind energy generation
and storage system:
According to US Department of Energy (2013), there are
two (2) factors before utilizing wind energy generation
and storage system. These are: Potential Legal and
Environmental Obstacles and The Economics of Wind
Power for Home Use.

BODY

Fabula ascertained that there are factors to consider

in utilizing this wind energy generation and storage
system. These factors are the variability of the wind,
the location, and the altitude (Personal
Communication, December 3, 2013).
EWEA (2013) presented that there are three main
factors that determines how much electricity a turbine
can produce. These are the wind speed, blade radius,
and air density.

BODY
The prospect of wind energy generation and storage
system in the Philippines:
According to Philippines Hybrid Energy Systems Inc.
(2013) The future of wind generators and storage
system in the Philippines will be very great, because
Philippines goal for 100% renewable energy by 2030 has
met 40% of using it's natural resources as alternative for
electricity producers.

Conclusion

It has been demonstrated that the prospect of wind energy

generation and storage system could be the best system for
having a clean and affordable alternative source of energy
here in the Philippines. Wind energy generator and its storage
system have proven to be the best system for alternative
source of energy in the Philippines.
According to Than (2005) wind energy generation and storage
system is the top 3 alternative source of energy for future.
Ryan (2009) said that wind energy generation and storage
system doesnt produce energy that builds up greenhouse
gases.

Conclusion

Windustry (2012) stated that Wind energy generation and

storage system cost range for about $1.3 Million to $2.2
Million updated last year 2012.
