A SOCIALLY ACCEPTED CRIME

What is Child Labor?


Child Labor is work for children that harms them
or exploits
them in some way e.g.
Physically
Mentally
Morally or Blocking access to Education

Introduction
An estimated 158 million children worldwide are
engaged in child labor.
Child labor is a global issue.
Child Labor hampers the physical, intellectual,
emotional and moral development of child
Child labor is one of the most common social
issue in Asia and also in Pakistan

History of Child Labor


Industrial Revolution in the late 1700.

Hand labor was replaced by Power-driven


machines.

History of Child Labor


The factory owners found a new source of
labor to run their machineschildren.
By 1810, about 2 million school-age
children were working 50- to 70-hour
weeks.

Law states that


"No child below the age of
fourteen, shall be engaged in
any factory or mine or in any
other hazardous employment.
"All forms of forced labor and
traffic in human beings is
prohibited."

5 Major Companies Guilty Of Child Labor

1. Nike

The sportswear company admitted that they


messed up by using child labor in some of the world's
least-developed countries.

2. Phillip Morris

The tobacco company has


admitted that at least 72 children (as young as ten years
old) were working on the tobacco farms.

3. Hanes

estimated 200 children who were 11 years


old or younger sew clothes for this cloth company.

4. Hershey's

This American chocolate company has


used child labor in its cocoa fields.

5. Victoria's Secret

The American lingerie


company was found to use cotton picked from farms that
relied on child labor

Child Labor in Pakistan

In Pakistan children aged 5-14 are above 40 million.

3.8 million children age group of 5-14 years are working in


Pakistan out of total 40 million children in this age group.

Fifty percent of these economically active children are in


age group of 5 to 9 years.

Even out of these 3.8 million economically active children,


2.7 million were claimed to be working in the agriculture
sector. 73% of them were said to be boys.

Problems

30% of our countrys total population is leading life below


the poverty-line, in which the people are deprived of basic
necessities of life like clothing, shelter, food, education
and medication, the children of these people will be
forced to become Laborers' or workers in order to
survive.

Our people are not aware of the importance of education.


Class-based education system is another reason for
increasing child Labour as a result, child Labor is increase
in rural areas.

The government has not put its laws into practice to stop
child Labour in our country thats why child labour is
increasing day by day.

Solutions

Eliminate Poverty

Enforce Labor Laws

Encourage Education

Abolish Child Trafficking

Replace Working Children with Working Adults
