What can you learn from the title of
the artwork?
I can learn that the art work is called
lion and that it is made with lines.

recognize?
I can recognize line, shape, and value.

Looking at the elements of design,
describe what qualities you see.
The qualities that I see are unity is
strong, contrast is used in a lot of
ways, emphasis is very unique.

What media and techniques did the
artist use?
The artist techniques that are used are
shading that give the picture the
darkness where no light can reach and
where there is a lot of light.

Emphasis: Is there a dominant element
or focal point that you see first? I see
the dominant element first, which is
color.

Balance: Is there a special balance, or
weight, among the elements? What
mood does it create? There is a special
balance. And the mood that is created
is peaceful and majestic.

Proportion: Do the proportions look
normal, ideal, or unusual? Why? The
proportions look unusual because
there are proportions that have a good
amount and some that have a lot and
some that have a little.

Pattern: Are elements repeated to
create a pattern? Where? Why? Yes,
lines drawn on the lions mane are
repeated multiple times because it
gives it that realistic look.

Rhythm or Movement: What visual
rhythms or paths of movement do your
eyes follow? Where? Why? The paths
of movement are where the art work
has so much detail that it feels like it
might come to life.

Unity and Variety: What elements bring
together, or unify many parts of the
design. Why? What elements add
variety? Why? Lines, color, value and
space unify many parts of the design.
Color and value add variety because
the color of the paper look old and give
it that historic look. The value in the
shading and lighting of the lead make
it magnificent.

Is there symbolism in the artwork?
What do you think it means? Yes there
is symbolism. I think that the lion
symbolizes pride, honesty,
selflessness.

What feeling do you think the artist
wanted to give the viewer when
looking at the work? I think that the
artist wanted to give the viewers a
piece of beauty and hard work when
looking into the art work.

Does the work remind you of other
things you have experienced? Yes. It
reminds me of when my art work
looked at with love and respect.

your other classes? The work relates to
my Spanish class because when you
learn Spanish you feel the power and
the majestic of the ancient language.

craftsmanship, dedication and loyalty
make the work a success.

work is unique because it gives that
ancient, historic look. I feel this
because it is unique in every way
