Stir casting
It involves producing a melt of the selected matrix material,
followed by the introduction o f a reinforcing material into
the melt
Then the solidification of the melt containing suspended
particles to obtain the desired distribution of the dispersed
phase in the cast matrix
In composites produced by this method, particle distribution
will change significantly depending on process parameters
during both the melt and solidification stages of the process.

To optimize of stir casting process parameters to minimize
the specific wear of Al-SiC composites by Taguchi method.
The microstructures of Al-SiC composite were observed by
scanning electron microscope (SEM).
The most significant parameter which affected on specific
wear was SiC content which contributes 88.67%. Adding
content of SiC from 0 to 15 wt. % can decrease the specific
wear of Al-SiC composites about 90.08

The main objective is to evaluate the ultimate tensile
strength, hardness, density and the microstructure of SiC
particulate reinforced Al matrix composites as a function of
volume of SiC.
It was found that the hardness increases with increasing
weight percentage of silicon carbide. The best results have
been obtained at 20% weight fraction of SiC particles.

The tool is a block with two intersecting channels of identical
cross-section.
A well lubricated billet of the same cross-section is placed into
one of the channels, and a punch then presses it into the
second channel.
Under these conditions the billet will move as a rigid body,
and deformation is achieved ideally by simple shear in a thin
layer at the crossing plane of the channels.
When the punch is finished it is retreated and the billet has
been uniformly deformed, except for a small zone in the lower
part of the sample and in the end regions.
