Reading
Phonemic Awareness
- The ability to hear and manipulate sounds in words.

Phonics
- Connecting sounds with letters and the ability to
blend sounds together to produce the pronunciation of words.

Fluency

(60-70 words per minute by the end of the year)


- Smoothness or flow with which sounds,syllables, words,
and phrases are joined together when speaking quickly.

Comprehension
- The ability to understand what is read

Sight Word Recognition


- The list we are using are Fry Sight Words. Your child will progress
through these words at his/her own pace. We expect your student
to be able not only read the word but spell them correctly.

Writing

Focus

- All sentences should be clearly focused.


- By the end of the year students are expected to write one paragraph.

Conventions
- Capitals, periods, and grammar to be used correctly
throughout their writing.

Spelling
- A combination of phonetics and conventional spelling
throughout the story.

Spacing/Handwriting
- Letters written left to right and top and bottom
- Appropriate spacing
- Easily recognized letters

- Sensory details to enhance writing.

Homework assignments are designed to give children

What is mClass Reading 3D?

ding 3D is an assessment tool used to inform instruction for students in K-3rd gra

Grading Policy
Students will receive S, N, or Us in core subjects.
They will also receive them for enhancements.
