Standards

Introduction
Growing interest in quality control and quality assurance,
including U.S. government directive on use of consensus
standards
Complementary roles of regulatory agency monitoring
guidance and consensus standards
Agency guidance for specific purpose measurements
Standards have basic methods, instrument specifications, and
broad scope monitoring requirements

Standards

Consensus Standards Process

ASTM and ISO Meteorology subcommittees are under the
respective Air Quality committees
Joint participation by manufacturers and users
Consensus implies basic agreement among all participants
Formal voting process ensures that problem situations can
be fully addressed
Standards are periodically re-affirmed

Conclusions
Consider using existing standards in planning both
routine and special field measurement programs.
Get involved with the process -- ASTM and ISO
committee meetings are often held in conjunction
with AMS Annual Meetings. This includes Friday,
January 19 at 1:30 p.m.
