bio

I just got married about a month ago

and moved here to OKC.
Prior to coming to John Rex I taught
at a charter school for ten years in
Lakeland, FL
This is my eleventh year teaching
kindergarten

Birthdays
We dont have birthday parties in the
classroom. No special treats may be brought
to the class for birthdays.
For private birthday parties outside of school: I
can put invitations in backpacks while the
students are at specials only if the entire class
is invited. If you are not inviting the entire
class then you need to obtain a PTA Directory
with published contact info so that you can
send the invitations outside of school.

Helpful Tips
Double knot shoes tight in the
morning before school
If your child wears a belt make sure
that they know how to use it
If you ever send money in please
label what it is for
Ill believe half of what I hear about
you from your child if you do the
same : )

Responsive Classroom
Balance between
a childs social and academic growth
Conduct morning meetings to create a
sense of community.
Provide a place where students feel
physically and emotionally safe

Balanced Literacy Approach
Based on assessment of the childs instructional
reading level with a gradient of A to Z
Teacher works with small group of students who
are about the same level with similar needs
Each student has a copy of the same book
(leveled readers) and reads as the teacher
observes, coaches, prompts and evaluates their
performance
Teacher guidance is essential

Bridges in Mathematics
K-4 Curriculum
Developing students deep understandings of
mathematical concepts
Proficiency with key skills and ability to solve
complex and novel problems
Problems and Investigations
Work Places
Practice
Assessment
Number Corner calendar routine and
computational fluency practice

Goal for our students:

Solve and pose a wide variety of
word problems and be able to
explain their thinking.
Develop confidence in their
ability to persevere with difficult
