PROJECT 01 INTERPRETING THE

MASTERWORKS
DESIGN BRIEF
The task
In a group of 4, students are to choose on ANY MASTERWORK of an
international/local artist with strong character and style. The Master should
be chosen only within 2D artworks (painting only). Each group is to share
their findings in two ways:

Research poster In an A1 board, each group is to compose your research

finding on your chosen Masterwork comprises of artists bibliography,
timeline, style, etc. Each group is to present their research findings on the
chosen masterwork through a 10 minutes verbal presentation.

board/paper/canvas using various media. Each group is to present the
final collage on wall during presentation.

PROJECT 02 THROUGH MY EYES

DESIGN BRIEF
The task
Nature is rhythmically designed, forming unique three dimensional pattern.
Pattern from nature provides a stimulus for the creative process. Students
are to select a natural object in the form of a fruit or a vegetable to be
analyzed throughout Project 2. The analysis must be done in all aspects. Not
only on the external appearance like colour, shape, pattern and texture but
also their internal character. Sectional cuts in various directions can be
explored for better understanding of the objects characteristics. The result
of the analysis will give students some ideas on both two-dimensional (2D),
and three-dimensional (3D) characters. The findings on the object analyzed
to be put together in a single composition.

DESIGN BRIEF
The task
3a - Group Task
Students are to study and research music genres during the 60s to 80s era. In
a group of 4, students will be assigned to select one specific music genre
studied and present it. Students are requested to identify and analysis the
elements and characteristics of different music genres in those eras in
every aspect plot; thought (theme, idea); diction (language); spectacle;
music (sound); etc. Each group is to translate the characters analyzed using
appropriate design elements such as colours, texture, geometrical shapes,
forms, mood and energy in a collage. Findings need to be summarized while
the understandings of the characters studied are to be presented on:

3b - Individual Task
As an extension from task 3a, student is now to work individually. Using the
group findings in task 3a, students are to explore basic geometric shapes
and forms interpreting the characters summarized. Explorations are to be
made both in 2D and 3D, and the transformation is to be made clear with
consideration of appropriate design principles. You are to present your
design ideas in:

A maximum 2 nos. of A2 boards, using various media. (design process/idea

generation)
A finished 3D model (coloured) within the volume of 300 x 300 x 300mm,
using various media
