SRMCS History

Dr. Neil A. Thompson opened the first hospital in Robeson

County in 1906
The Thompson Hospital consolidated with the Baker
Sanatorium, under the direction of Dr. Horace M. Baker, Sr.,
to form the Baker-Thompson Memorial Hospital in 1946
In 1953, they were replaced by a new 140-bed hospital
known as Robeson County Memorial Hospital in 1953
On January 1, 1960, the hospitals name was changed to
Southeastern General Hospital
In 1994, after a number of expansion programs, the
organization became Southeastern Regional Medical Center

SRMCS History Continued

On January 1, 2013, the organizations name was changed to

Southeastern Health while the medical center retained the
Southeastern Regional Medical Center name.
The organization is accredited by DNV GL Healthcare and has
been designated as a Magnet organization
The agency is licensed for 452 beds and offers a combination of
acute care, intensive care and psychiatric services to more than
16,000 inpatients and 68,000 emergency patients annually
Non-profit organization
The hospital employs more than 2,100 people, has 117 active
medical staff, and has a total of 395 credential providers (including
physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and CRNAs)

Health's Physician Services

operates more than 40 primary care, specialty
and urgent care clinics throughout Robeson
County and in Bladen, Cumberland and Scotland
counties
SRMC staff specializes in providing quality family
or internal medicine services, including routine
and pre-employment physicals, drug screenings,
preventive medicine, blood pressure checks,
allergy injections, immunizations, family
planning, pregnancy tests, and PAP smears
