Lifts using cranes, hoists, or other


mechanical lifting devices will not
commence unless:
An assessment of the lift has been completed
and the lift method and the equipment has been
determined by a competent person
Operators of powered lifting devices are trained
and certified for that equipment
Rigging of the load is carried out by a competent
person
Lifting devices and equipment have been
certified for use within the last 12 months (at a
minimum)
The load does not exceed the dynamic and / or
static capacities of the lifting equipment
Any safety devices installed on lifting equipment
are operational
All lifting devices and equipment have been
visually examined before each lift by a competent
person.
The following guidelines must be followed:
No lifting operation shall take place without an
appointed banksman who will be easily identified
by wearing a high visibility vest
All cranes must be fitted with an operational
Safe Working Load Indicator
The maximum wind speed for crane operations is
12 meters per second.
The lifting area must be barricaded off to keep
unauthorized personnel out
No lifts may be made over people
Tag lines shall be used on all lifting operations to
control the load from a safe distance. No one
may touch the load after it has been lifted off the
ground
