Steel Truss System

Session 2 & 3
Truss Load system & Analysis

Steel Truss System: Bridge Truss System

Bridge:
The bridge structure supports a deck which allows the passage of
pedestrians and vehicles, than transmit all of these loads (incl. self
weight of the bridge) through piers, abutments and foundations to the
ground.
For moderately large spans the use of
beams to support bridge decks
becomes uneconomical., trusses may
be used.
Trusses carry loads by developing axial
forces in their members. For the same
span and load, the truss system
capacity is larger than simple beam
because of the skeletal nature of their
construction, the structure will be
lighter.

Bridge Truss System: Gravitiy & lateral load

The gravity load that worked on truss bridge system are:
- Structural self weight
- Chord member self weight
- Joint plate weight
- Bolts
- Aditional superimposed weight
- Concrete deck
- Asphalt pavement
- Walk path
- railing
- Live load
- traffic load
The Lateral load that worked on truss bridge system are:
- Wind load
- Earthquake load

FUNCTION OF STRUCTURE
The basic function of any structure is to support loads and
transmit them to the ground.
Building:
The building structure supports the roof,
floors, walls and their loads and
transmit them through the foundation to
the ground.
The roof truss commonly a spereate
structure system from main bulding structure
system.
Its analyze and design spereatly from the
main building struture, in communly
Foundation
assumed tha the roof system is
just dead
load to the main structure

- Earthquake load (from roof closer slef weight)
