Introduction
Project
Common Definition: a task or a collaborative enterprise
that is carefully planned to achieve a particular aim.
Project Costing, is a PeopleSoft FSCM application for cost
collection and for monitoring the progress and status for a
product or service(Project) throughout.
Additional to the effective analyzing of project costs and
allocating project resources. ,project Costing seamlessly
integrates with several other PeopleSoft applications inorder
to make the process more efficient.

Integration Touch points of

To fully take advantage of PeopleSoft Expenses, it is important to
understand the points of integration between PeopleSoft Expenses and

Allocating Budgets for the


Projects
Creating a detailed budget for the projects and activities.

Project Costing supports top-down project budgeting,


bottom-up project budgeting, and the ability to adjust
existing project budgets.

PeopleSoft allows user to calculate and allocate both


cost and revenue budgets.

Allocating Teams(Resources) for the


Project and Activities
Allotting team members and their project roles and
schedules.
PeopleSoft Project Costing uses project teams to identify
and manage the resources that are needed to complete
an assignment.
Similarly allows us assign employees to activities and
create activity schedules.

Maintaining Templates

Process of creating projects and activities by using project


templates also available

For example, we can create a project template that contains the


detailed work breakdown structure, budget plan, and resources that
are associated with the project activities.

We can use the template to populate new projects.

We can modify the our own project template, or create multiple


templates to meet our business needs.

Maintaining Rate Plans


We charge customers, a rate for the services that we
provide plus the related costs.
By establishing rate sets and rate plans in PeopleSoft
Project Costing and then associating activities to those
rate sets or rate plans, we can efficiently manage pricing
across multiple project activities using a limited number
of rate plans.
Rate sets and rate plans in PeopleSoft Project Costing
are dynamic and subject to change in rate structure over
time.

Collecting Costs
We can collect costs that are tracked in PeopleSoft
applications like purchasing, Expenses, Inventory etc
and pull them into Project Costing.
These costs can be used for project reporting and
analysis, or included in customer bills.
Using the integration of PeopleSoft Project Costing
and PeopleSoft Time and Labor , the
corresponding costs can also be tracked

Adjusting Transactions
By using the Project Manager Review component
(PC_PM_REVIEW) project managers can review, adjust
if necessary, and approve transactions before the
transactions are sent through the billing process.
If project managers determine that an adjustment is
needed, they can modify the amount, quantity, projectrelated ChartFields (business unit, project, activity, type,
category, and subcategory) and billable status.

Allocation of Process

There are two basic types of allocations that can be performed in PeopleSoft Project
Costing by the Allocations process (FS_ALLC):
Project-to-project allocations.
PeopleSoft General Ledger to Project Costing allocations.

Project-to-project allocations occur entirely within PeopleSoft Project Costing.


During project-to-project allocations, quantities and amounts are distributed from one
or more projects to one or more projects..

You can allocate within business units (intraunit), or among business units (interunit)
such as project-to-project allocations between project business units.

In General Ledger-to-Project Costing allocations, amounts are moved from general


ledger accounts and allocated to one or more projects.

Distribution of Funds
Project costs can be distributed among multiple funding
sources.
The Funds Distribution Application process distributes
funding by applying funds distribution rules to incoming
transactions and assigning costs accordingly.
You can use the Pricing process to price funded rows for
billing purposes.

Integration with Assets

PeopleSoft Project Costing manages the transaction


costs associated with assets from inception to cost value
adjustment to retirement.
Full lifecycle asset management provides detailed cost
control, from defining the physical asset to placing it in
service, maintaining it, and retiring it.
You can create assets from project transactions by using
either express capitalization or manual capitalization.

Tracking Project status and


analyzing
PeopleSoft enables the user with the option of tracking
the project status throughout.
It also provides option to analyze the project cost
adjustments overall project progress etc.

PeopleSoft uses an application engine process named
Report Summarization processto create and modify
project reports.
Project reports will provide consolidated clear picture
about the overall project costs and transactions.
