Analysis of the
Emotional Intelligence
Inventory

Emotional intelligence also called EI


describes on ability, capacity, or skill to
perceive, assess, and manage the emotions
of ones self, of others and groups. The term
emotional intelligence was coined by
Salovey and Mayer in 1990, but was
popularised by Daniel Goleman (1995)
through his book Emotional Intelligence.
Why it can matter more than IQ? According
to
Salovey
and
Mayer,
emotional
intelligence is a form of social intelligence
that involve the ability to monitor ones own
and others feeling and emotions, to
discriminate among them, and to use this

managing emotions, motivating oneself,

enhancement of social well being. shortly,
emotional intelligence is the capacity to
understand emotional information and to
reason with emotions. It involves 4 abilities
1. The capacity to accurately perceive
emotions
2. The capacity to use emotions to facilitate
thinking
3. The capacity to understand emotional

The inventory has been designed for


adolescents of sixteen years or above of
schools. Emotional Intelligence is measured in
respect of four areas namely Intra personal
Awareness (knowing about ones own
emotions), Inter personal Awareness (knowing
about others emotions), Inter personal
Management (managing others emotions).
There are 25 item dealing with the four areas
mentioned above. All four areas contain five
items each.
The inventory shows a persons aver all
evaluations of his or her own worth. It is five
items one dimension. Answers are on a 5-

and emotional aspects.


Goleman defined emotional intelligence as the
capacity for recognizing our own feeling and
those of others, for motivating ourselves, and
for managing emotions well in ourselves and in
our relationship.

By analysing the table, it can be said that the


students are more aware of their own
emotional status than the others. Most of the
students answered that they can understand
and mange their emotions. But they are not
much able to deal with others emotions.
Training programmes should be given to
adolescent students to make them aware of
