IP Communications

Benefits to IP Communication
Only one means of communication is required
Keeps the digital signal from the FACP digital. Dialers are
analog so when using a dialer message has to be
converted to analog to be properly transmitted.
The cloud provides multiple paths for information to move.
There is no signal point of failure once inside the cloud.
The error detection and correction process ensures the right
message is received at the monitoring station.
The speed of the internet allows the signal to be delivered almost
instantly.
Loss of communication between FACP and supervising station is
known within 90 seconds.

Fire Phones / Warden Stations

Commonly required for High Rise applications.

When a phone jack is activated it is connected to the Master Handset,
associated as a switch set on the Master Panel.
Typically one Phone is selected at a time.
Typically one circuit per floor.
Multiple jacks or Warden Stations per floor.
Locations generally include: stairwells, elevator lobbies, or inside
elevators.
Vertical riser stairwells can also be grouped as a circuit.

System configuration
For Configuring a system the main required is the
operation of the system:

How will the system operate (Single Channel or Dual Channel)?

Required evacuation (General Evacuation or Evacuation by Zone)?
Total number of speaker circuits/paging zones needed?
How many watts of audio per speaker circuit?
Are Fire Phones also required?
How many Fire Phone Circuits?

Is backup amplification required?

System configuration
Single Channel vs. Dual Channel Operation

Single Channel:
A specific signal or page to a
predetermined area or areas
Dual Channel
Simultaneously broadcast two different
audio signals (tones or messages) to different
areas or floors
Ability to broadcast a recorded message or

System configuration
Operating Parameters

Alarm by Zone:

In most high rise applications a General

Or Other as per project requirements

System configuration
Operating Parameters
Type of Circuit Supervision:
Class A, Class B, A/B circuits
Load per circuit
Determines the DP amplifier size
If not evenly distributed, individually specified
Recommendations:
small rooms .25 watt speaker, larger rooms .5 to 1W
open areas 1 watt per 2000 Sq.. ft.
corridor speakers 1/2 to 1 Watts per speaker

System configuration
Operating Parameters

Amplifier Load:
The speaker wattage and number of speaker circuits
determine the amplifier size.
Distribute the load evenly (50w max/ckt).

Recommendation:
Design a system at 80% to 90% of the amplifier capacity
only. This allows for future expansion.
Some projects specify % capacity of amplifiers.
50 watt @ 80% = 40 watts
Amplifiers can be used at 100%
