Noun: singular and plural

NOTE!
Some nouns are countable in Lithuanian language, but
non-countable in English:
Advice, dust, homework, news, toast, money,
rubbish, hair, furniture, paint, knowledge,
jewellery, proof

Some nouns have only plural (things are of two parts)


Glasses, scissors, binoculars, headphones, pants, tights, pyjamas, jeans,
trousers, shorts.
Police, people, children, stairs, clothes, thanks, surroundings (apylinks),
outskirts (umiestis).
If we want to count those nouns, we say:
A pair of.
Two pairs of etc.

For nouns that end in


ch, x, s, or s sounds,
add es.
box boxes
watch watches
boss bosses
kiss kisses
bus buses

For nouns ending in f or fe, change f


to v and add es.
wolf wolves
wife wives
leaf leaves
life lives
For nouns ending consonant + y
baby babies
toy toys
kidney kidneys

potato potatoes
memo memos
stereo stereos

Note!
After plural nouns (jeans, police, etc.) we use verb of plural
form: are, were
The police are (is) here. They are (it is) looking
everywhere.
These jeans are very expensive.
But after nouns news and United States we use verb of
singular form:
The news is (are) good.
The United States is (are) a rich country.

Measurements with numerals we use in plural but verbs in


singular:
Ten kilometres, six litres, two pounds, five dollars, etc.
1000 dollars is (are) a lot of money.
Three kilometres isnt (arent) far.

Words: million, thousand, hundred after numeral do not


take s at the end:
6 million
5 hundred
4 thousand
