WHAT IS HRS. BASE ?

HRS is Hot Rolled Sheet, HRS included one of

Hotmix used to repair the road.

Hot Rolled Sheet consist of coarse aggregate,
refined aggregate, filler and asphalt.
Hot Rolled Sheet using for road with intensity
medium.

WHERE IS HRS ?

FIRST STEP

The first step for Hot Rolled Sheet is

- Clean the road
Clean the road have as a purpose clean the road
from trash such as grass, rocks, soil and etc
Clean the road use the some heavy equipment such
as :

BULLDOZER OR DOZER

Bulldozer or Dozer used

to clean the road. Dozer

can dig the soil, hoe the
trash and move the
trash to dump truck.
Dozer can clean the
grass, rock, soil and etc.

DUMP TRUCK

Dump truck used for

moved the trash from

the road area to damp.
Loading and unloading
debris in project
location.

The second step for Hot Rolled Sheet is : Prime Coat

A prime coat is an application of a low viscosity asphalt to a
granular base in preparation for an initial layer (or surface
course layer) of asphalt. The purpose of the prime coat is;
to coat and bond loose material particles on the surface of
the base. Prime Coat use the some heavy equipments, such
as :

ASPHALT SPRAYER

Prime coat need the

asphalt sprayer for

spray the first layer
of asphalt.

TRUCK SPRAYER

The purpose of truck

sprayer same with

asphalt sprayer. The
truck spray the
asphalt for making
first layer

The third step for Hot Rolled Sheet is : Tack Coat

A tack coat is sprayed on the surface of an existing

asphalt or concrete pavement by a distributor

truck immediately prior to placing an overlay. Tack
Coat use the some heavy equipments, such as :

TACK COAT SPRAYER AND TRUCK SPRAYER

Tack coat is srayed

between base course

and lataston/HRS WC
. it is needed to unite
base course layer
and HRS WC layers

material

#1 Heat aggregates & asphalt to specified temperature.

#2 Remove aggregates & asphalt from ovens.
#3 Place proportioned aggregates & asphalt
into mixer. Mix until aggregate is fully
coated.
#4 Cure mix in oven
covered with aluminum
foil for 2 hours at 135oC
#5 Prepare the gyratory compactor (for
Superpave method). Place molds in oven for
60 minutes.
#6 Compact using gyratory compactor
(Superpave). Compact using Marshall
Hammer (Marshall)
#7 Extract specimen after short period of
cooling. I.D. specimen. Let cool further then
determine volumetric properties

Picture 1. The Layer of Asphalt Pavement

Spreading HRS-BC using asphalt finisher as a pavement layer that cover the base layer/HRS
base layer is in order to prevent the water infiltrate base course layer and sub-base course
layer and it will make the street level more comfortable.
The picture above is explain about initial compaction of Hot Roller Sheet/lataston using
tandem roller. The implementation of this method will get the surface flat and more strength
so capable of proceeding through the traffic load on it. The use of water is needed to protect
steel wheels from sticking on the surface at the first breakdown at a temperature of 110-125
degrees Celsius. The number of compaction tracks are specified by the test result of material
in the laboratory before implementation/Triall mix.

The end of the process of spreading HRS-BC (Hot Roller Sheet-Binder Course) using
PTR/Pneumatic tired rollers is to moor the pore of HRS-BC until the layers are really
waterproof. In this process, water is also needed to moisten the rubber tires that can protect
them from sticking with the mixture. The process of compaction must be at 95-110 degrees
Celsius and the number of the tracks are specified by laboratory test results before the
implementation of the work/Triall mix.

The picture above is the implementation of Prime Coat job as fastener adhesive between
LPA/ top layer foundation with HRS-base. This work must be executed in 24 hours before
spreading HRS-Base in order that so that the mixture of asphalt and the oil can seeped into
the layers of the Foundation. Before spraying, the land must be cleaned from dust by using a
high-pressure compressor.

The picture beside is the implementation of dumping and spreading of lapis aus/HRS-WC.
Basically the process is same with HRS- BC and there are similarities with the mixture of HRSBC. But the mixture of HRS-BC are finer and the content of asphalt is more than HRSA-WC.
Before spreading the HRS-WC, the land must be cleaned from dirt/dust by using a compressor
and sprayed with Tack Coat /adhesive layer that aims to make HRS-WC layer unite with the
HRS-BC layer.

The picture is explain the process of compacting layers of HRS-WC using Tandem Roller. The
process is the same as the compacting HRS-BC above. There is little difference in thickness on
this layer. The thickness of HRS-BC are 8 cm and HRS WC are 4 cm.
The final compaction is using PTR/pneumatic tired rollers. This process is to determine the
outcome of the surface layer that be smooth, flat and the pore really tightly closed.
