What is a Biosensor?
Analytical devices which are capable of providing
either qualitative or quantitative results.
Biosensors function by coupling a biological sensing
element with a detector system using a transducer.

A device that uses specific biochemical reactions
mediated by isolated enzymes, immunosystems,
tissues, organelles or whole cells to detect chemical
compounds usually by electrical, thermal or optical
signals.

Nostrils collect smell (analyte), which is sensed by the olfactory membrane (bioreceptor).
The responses of the membrane then converted by the olfactory nerve cell (transducer)
into electrical signals which pass along the nerve fibre to the brain for interpretation.
Brain acts as a microprocessor, turning the signal into a sensation which we call smell.
