Equipment used: venutrimeter and orifice
meter
Used to measure rate of flow

Application of Bernoulli's
equation
Orificemeter is a device used for measuring
the rate of fluid flowing through a pipe. It is
a cheaper device than Venturimeter.
Venturimeter is a device used for measuring
the rate of fluid flowing through a pipe.
Difference : venturimeter can measure
rate of flow for all incompressible fluid and
orifice meter can measure only for liquids

Venturimeter and
orificemeter

Frictional loss(major loss) in laminar flow and turbulent flow through pipes
experiment 2,3

flow velocity is varied In order to get

laminar and turbulent flow
Low velocity: flow is laminar, friction loss
is caused by viscous shear between
streamline near the wall of pipe
High velocity: flow id turbulent ,friction
loss is caused by irregularities in surface
and surface roughness

Calibration of a subsonic Wind

tunnel

To estimate the test section speed characteristics

of the subsonic wind tunnel with respect to the
RPM of the drive motor
Wind tunnel section tested without model for
different RPM.
By using pitot static tube, static and stagnation
pressure is measured and with the help of this,
velocity of the flow as well as mach number is
calculated

DETERMINATION OF LIFT FOR THE GIVEN

AEROFOIL SECTION

Lift force is the force acting perpendicular to

the relative wind, it is responsible for lifting
as well as balancing the weight of the
aircraft.
Lift force produced on the model is
measured from digital meter
Manometer reading will give velocity value.
From this co efficient of lift can be
measured.
Similarly find coefficient of drag and plot cl
vs cd for different angle of attack

pressure distribution
experiment no: 6,7,8,9

cambered airfoil
symmetrical airfoil
smooth cylinder
rough cylinder

pressure distribution
experiment no: 6,7,8,9

Smooth and rough cylinder:

To plot the pressure distribution over smooth circular cylinders and infer
the effects of flow separation on bluff shapes. Graphs of Vs Cp are
plotted
Cambered and symmetrical aerofoil:
To plot the pressure distribution over a cambered and symmetrical
aerofoil. Graphs of Vs Cp are plotted

Flow visualization studies in

subsonic flows

To visualize the flow over cylinders in low speed flow and

aerofoil's and flat plates with the help of water tunnel
