OUTLINE

DEFINITION METAMORPHIC ROCKS

WHAT CAUSES METAMORPHISM
HEAT ( TERMAL METAMORPHISM)
PRESSURE (CATACLASTIC
METAMORPHISM)
REGIONAL METAMORPHISM

Definition
The metamorphic rock is a rock
formed by metamorphism process
in rocks before.
Metamorphism, the process is
causing changes in mineral
composition, texture, and
structure of rocks because of
heat, shearing, and high Pressure.

What Causes
Metamorphism?
Heat (Termal Metamorphism)
Pressure (Cataclastic
Metamorphism)
Combination of heat and pressure
( Regional Metamorphism)

Heat (Termal Metamorphism)

Heat flows from hotter to
colder materials, so when
a hot igneous intrusion
(magma) comes into
contact with cold country
rock, it creates a
metamorphic aureole /
contact aureole or
baked zone.
This results in contact
metamorphism, whereby
rocks undergo
metamorphic reactions
due to heating (little or no
pressure change)

Pressure (Cataclastic
Metamorphism)

Although at shallow
depths faults break rock
and slide past each
other, in the
asthenosphere, rocks
dont break, rather they
flow past each other.
Rock in the deep
portions of faults
undergoes dynamic
metamorphism and
creates a fine-grained
metamorphic rock

( Regional Metamorphism)
Regional metamorphism, metamorphic rock which
is under the influence of high temperatures and
pressures, typically metamorphic this type found in
areas with subduction zones

Foliated metamorphic rock

textured divided into two:

Kristoblastik
Palimset

Kristoblastik
That is, if the texture of the rocks of
origin no longer visible. In naming its
used suffixes blastik then we see
kemasnya, and use the term:
-Homoblastik, if it consists of one
type of texture.
- Heteroblastik, if it consists of more
than one type of texture.

Texture is meant here is:

-Lepidoblastik: Most of the minerals form a flat
(mica / muscovite).
-Nematoblastik: The majority of crystalline
minerals (plagioclase).
-Granoblastik: Most of its mineral granular /
equidemensional (quartz).
As for the crystalline forms using the terms:
- Lidioblastik: mostly euhedral mineral form.
- Hipidioblastik: most of the mineral form of
subhedral.
-Ksenoblastik: Most of the mineral form of
anhedral.

Palimset
If the origin is still visible rock texture or left.
Use blasto prefix to its name, and use the
term:
-Blasto Ofitik: rock origin have ofitik texture.
-Blasto Porphyritic: rock origin have porphyritic
texture.
-Blasto Psefitik: native rock has pebble texture
(psefi-tik).
-Blasto Psamatik: rock it came from sand-sized
clastic sedimentary rocks (psamatik).
-Blasto Pelitik: native rock clastic sedimentary
rocks sized clay (argillic).
