40 years later
Logline: A frank, proud, introspective, uncompromising, undisguised look at the 40 years of a
Generation that gave up its youth for a better future.
The programs must create a sense pride through evoking emotions that will speak to the core of every South
African. To make them realise that every great nation is driven by the youth that finds its mission. The content
must carry messages of a great generation passing the baton to the next generation.
Overcoming oppression building a better future for the country. This through courage that sculpted pathways
that to freedom, democracy and elusive equality

A story of suffering, struggle and rebirth of a country seen through the eyes of its youth. A portrait of a generation.

20X 30 FILLERS modern day generation- I am because. This approach


pays tribute to 1976 June 16 through a biographical look at those who
died. Using their stills and names like roll call. For instance, DJ Sbu
saying; I am because a businessman because of Tsietsi Mashinini. This
should ot be limited to famous people only.
20X30 FILLERS June 16 generation-fillers /participated in the march,
ITS INTRUSIVE AND INTIMATE.
These TV fillers could be used for Radio by lifting the audio and be
translated to all PBS stations languages. This will ensure consistency of
the message and narrative.

T-shirts
with the
namesRoll call.

The t-shirts will carry the names and faces of all who paid the biggest
sacrifice on that fateful day. This could be driven from a SABC corporate
communication point of view.
The title on the T-shirt will A portrait of a generation and say thank
you in different languages.

S1 Inter-generational conversation leading to fees must fall. POV; each


generation have a defined mission. Theirs will be to give insight into the
unique circumstances of both generations in a country grappling with
the youth unemployment and equality.
S2 community leadership this film will focus on the community
involvement from the committee of 13 leader and mobilisation role
which led to withdrawal of labour, reeducation of youth on their history
and who they are.
S3 white kids who were part of fees must fall- why was it important to
them to take part. Inherited apartheid legacy /burden. Levelling the

All the 40 fillers for both radio and TV will be rolled out 40 days before
16. during the forty days Radio will carry on their current affairs untold
stories that lead to June 16. We will use the before, on the day and
post approach.

Social
media
strategy

The fillers will also be customized used on social media platforms i.e.
YouTube, Tweeter, Facebook and instagram. The social media strategy
will be given editorial integrity by ensuring that the messaging is
driven from SABC corporate point of view.

Story integration
7de Laan- Paula works is excited by the prospect of interviewing
June 16 hero Murphy Morobe
Isidingo- post June 16 labour was withdrawn in solidarity with the
learners- storyline that references to labour unrest at that time.
Skeem Saam- develop a storyline that looks at a problem has a
June 16 inspired solution
