1.DEFINITION OF A REPORT TEXT


The report text often also known as informational report.
"Report", the Concise Oxford Dictionary 10th Edition, is
defined as :
1) An account is given of a matter after investigation or
consideration.
2) A piece of information about an event or situation.
So we can conclude, in a language view, a report text is used
to serves to provide information about an event or situation,
after the investigation and through the multi consideration.

2. SOCIAL FUNCTION OF A REPORT TEXT


The purpose of a report text is to present
information about something generally. It generally
describes the way things are with reference to
arrange of natural, manmade and social
phenomenon in our environment, such as : mamals,
the planets, rocks, plants, etc

3. THE GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A


REPORT TEXT
The characteristics of a report text can be seen from its generic
structures and linguistics features. Those characteristics will be
explained below.

A. GENERIC STRUCTURE

General Classification
A general Classification is a part that state
classification of general aspect of things, such as
animals, plants,etc. It will discussed in general.
Description
The part gives describing of the things which will be
discussed in detail,in terms of : parts, qualities,
habits and behavior.

B. LINGUISTIC FEATURES
Focus on generic participant.
A report text always introduces group or general nouns, such as
: platypus,etc
A report text uses relating verb and action verb, for example :
Relating verbs : Reptiles are scalyanimal
Action verbs : Birds fly in the sky,etc
A report text uses of simple present tense, example : Platypus
lives in streams, male platypus doesnt need any burrow, etc.
The language used in a report text is a scientific language
A report text uses conditionals and logical connectives

Giraffe is the highest animal in the world. Its height can reach 4.8 to 5.5 meters and its weight
about 1360 pounds. Giraffe has a unique characteristic. They have a very long neck and two
small horns on its head. Giraffes have big brown eyes and protected by thick and long
eyebrows. Her body is covered with a unique pattern that is attached by brown spots all over
their body.
Just like camels, giraffes can survive without drinking for long time because giraffes can rely
on the water contained in leaves they eat. Giraffes are very selective in choosing food. They
always eat young leaves that grow in the tree tops. Their tongue shaped like a knife help them
to cut branches which are very hard.
Female giraffes can start pregnant at the age of five years, with a gestation period of 15
months. Commonly female giraffe bear one baby, but sometimes two babies at once. Giraffes
bear its baby with a standing position. When the baby is about to be born, they just drop it to
the ground from a 1.5 meter of height. Baby giraffe can stand with about 20 minutes since
being born, and begin breastfeeding within an hour of birth.
