SYNOPSIS
A young married couple, Holly and Gerry, have a
joke between them: If anything ever happened to him,
he'd have to write her a list or else she'd never be able
to cope without him. The List grew to encompass
advice for any eventuality, a joke all their friends
shared. When Gerry's severe headache is diagnosed as
brain cancer and Holly tragically loses him in a few short
months, she is devastated and unmoored. She hasn't
just lost her husband, she's lost her very identity. And
then it arrives: a package marked The List. Gerry has
kept his promise, and inside this package are ten
envelopes to be opened over a period of ten months.
Each letter offers specific instructions to guide Holly
through grief, and ultimately grant her permission to
return to life. Of course each letter ends with PS, I Love
PACING
CHARACTERIZATION
Holly Kennedy
She is beautiful, smart and married to the
love of her life - a passionate, funny, and
impetuous Irishman named Gerry.
She got shocked when her husband passed
away because of brain tumor.
After her husband dead, Holly received some
letters from her husband.
Gerry Clark
He is a Hollys husband who is an admirable
person with a charming personality.
He is funny and always makes Holly happy.
He was sent some letters to Holly after he
was dead.
He stays to help Holly to face all problems
with his command in his letters.
Sharon McCarthy
Sharon is a best friend of Holly.
She is very kind and care about Holly.
Also, she helped Holly to forget her sadness.
Hollys Mother
She is mother of Holly that has same
experience like Holly. Father of Holly or
husband of her mother was passed away;
she got loneliness like Holly did.
She tried to motivate her daughter in order
to face the truth that her husband was dead.
TONE/MOOD
PLOT
The plot of the story is consists of 5 basic steps:
1. Exposition : the author tells about sadness of Holly
caused her husband, Gerry, was passed away.
2. Rising Action : when Holly losing her spirit because
her soulmate was gone forever.
3. Climax : when Holly feel the life is so hard without
Gerry in side her. Sharon and her mother worried
about Holly that she couldnt forget
her past.
4. Falling Action : she had found the happiness of her
life back.
5. Resolution : she was found her new life without Gerry.
