pleader in the use of alternative raw materials and fuels for

LAFARGE cement manufacturing process

Lafarge's tire-derived-fuel and plastic-derived-fuel
processes use scrap tires and non-recyclable
plastics, as complements to coal, for fueling its
cement plants.

ALTERNATIVE FUEL AND RAW MATERIAL

WASTE is used for substitute material in the
cement making process
It is a benefit for cement makers (for example
Holcim company).
Not all waste are suitable for the cement making
process

Health & Safety

Reducing Carbon Footprint
The United Nations Climate Change
Convention has approved the registration
of the Clean Development Mechanism
(CDM) application for the Waste Heat
Recovery (WHR) Project of Republic
Teresa Plant, a Lafarge associated plant.
The CDM is one of the mechanisms
introduced by the United Nations Climate
Change Convention in the context of the
Kyoto Protocol in 1997. The process is
designed to provide a financial incentive
for projects to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions in developing countries.

The project set up at the Teresa

cement plant supplies 30% of the
cement plant's electricity needs. By
using less energy produced from
fossil fuels, the heat recovery project
makes a lasting contribution to the
fight against climate change by
allowing the Teresa plant to cut its
indirect CO2 emissions by 12,000
tons per year.

Health and safety are absolute

priorities of Lafarge. The Group has
implemented a stringent safety
policy for its employees and
subcontractors. It also participates in
public health programs that benefit
both employees and local
communities. Lafarge aims to be
among the safest company in the
world and encourages safe behavior
not just for its employees and
contractors but for all its associates

Lafarge is the safest company in

its sector. Since 2002, the Group has
achieved a significant reduction in
both the frequency and the gravity
of work-related accidents. These
improvements are due in part to the
Group's Health and Safety
management system, which defines
the minimum safety levels required
for all Lafarge sites.
A great deal remains to be done
to become one of the safest
