Rationale behind establishing KCOI facilities inside the bottle
Caspian Sea is a completely closed water body with only one access to it
through the Volga-Don Channel system and could be compared to a bottle
with a bottleneck. Based on the country origin of equipment and
processing facilities for an offshore field development, the concepts of field
development in the Caspian region can be defined as:
Outside the bottle means fabrication of the equipment and
processing facilities outside the Caspian region and their delivery to
the Caspian Sea.
Inside the bottle means fabrication of the equipment and
processing facilities inside the Caspian region
Supply and transportation of oil-field equipment, heavy modules through
the Volga-Don Channel involves significant project contingencies and
schedule risks associated with the DIMENSIONAL and SEASONAL
restrictions of Volga-Don channel, thus effecting timely supply of these
goods under strict delivery deadlines.

KCOI is one of the pioneers who realized the necessity and

advantage of developing permanently installed fabrication facility
"Inside the bottle means fabrication of the equipment and
processing facilities within the Caspian region.

The quay strengthening is provided by sheet piles.

The quay length set above may be increased to more than 300 m if KCOI undertakes also shipbuilding activities.

These dimensions allow for access, manoeuvring and mooring of barges with total length of about 95-100 m (like transport barges TB95). The
yard is able to build and load-out modules in the range about 5.000-8.000 metric tons each

In 2009, KCOI shareholders approved the
plans for the development of KCOI yard,
located in Akshukur (north of Aktau city)
to be implemented in 2 Phases (Ph.1 &
Ph.2).
