Homelessness and Crime

Most homeless people are arrested due to public urination
and also loitering due to them not having a place to go or
even a place to sleep. This results in a second degree
trespassing charge if found sleeping on a bench multiple
times. Such acts makes it challenging for homeless people to
get housing or employment.

Thesis statement
Even though some people believe criminalization is necessary
to end some aspect of homelessness, homelessness should not
be criminalized, because criminalization measures raise
constitutional questions and violates the civil rights of
homeless people, city governments and law enforcement
officials are able to provide assistance and services, and
criminalizing the homeless does nothing to address the
underlying causes of homelessness.

Conclusion
For many years there have been people in the
world that are homeless and do not know their rights,
so they are being criminalized.

Homeless people are people too and also have a

right to understand the homelessness laws.

Personal Reflection
After doing this research and after studying about homelessness and
criminalization, I have learned that homeless people have gone to jail for trying to
sustain their life. I am now an advocate for sharing knowledge with homeless
people so they are aware of their rights. I plan to help fight against criminalization
of the homeless and will work to find solutions.
