Skinners Background
Burrhus Fredric Skinner was born on march 20,
1904, at Pennsylvania in USA. He died on
August 18, 1990 at Cambridge Massachusetts.
He was a psychologist and influential exponent
of behaviorism. He see human behavior in
terms of responses to environmental stimuli and
favours the controlled.

Continues
He was attracted to psychology through
the work of Russian Physiologist Ivan
Petrovich Pavlov on conditioned
reflexes, articles on behaviorism by
Bertrand Russell and the ideas of John
B. Watson, the founder of behaviorism.

Dreikurs Background
Rudolf Dreikurs was born in Vienna
Austria on February 8, 1897- May 25
1972.
He was a consultant in public schools.
He developed the Theory of Logical
Consequences in the 19th century.
(wikkibooks.org 2014).

Dreikurs Logical
Consequences

Dreikurs social Discipline model is based

on the four basic premises of Alders social
theory. These premises are:
1. Humans are social beings and their basic
motivation is to belong.
2. All behaviour has purpose
3. Humans are decision-making organism
4. Humans

ASSUMPTIONS

Inappropriate behaviour can be terminated by

helping students find valid ways to satisfy their
needs
Students behave more appropriately when
they suffer the logical consequence of their
behaviour
Presenting students with choice between two
alternative behaviour and their consequences
teach them to be responsible.

Dreikurs Logical
Consequences
The teacher considers the motivation and goals of
the student behaviour in the development of a
management plan. A more humanistic approach
than just focusing on discipline. The teacher then
applies Logical Consequences to assist students
in taking responsibility for their actions and
behaviours.

Dreikurs Logical
Consequences
Dreikurs did not believe in the use of punishment,
reinforcement or praise. Instead, he believes that
natural /logical consequence and the process of
encouragement are the most useful techniques for
preventing discipline problems.

To gain power and control (pushing a limit)
To get revenge (mean spirited).
To avoid failure( Give up easily).

TYPES OF TEACHER
Driekur's' categorization of teachers is
based on the predominant behavior they
display in the classroom.
He defines them as such:
Autocratic
Democratic
Permissive

Autocratic

Is content and teacher centered

Suppresses the interest, attitudes,
abilities and needs of the students
Does not involve freedom of expression

Permissive
Students do not learn that acceptable
behavior requires self-discipline.
No rules installed
Discipline and control is not present in
the classroom

Democratic
They allow students to have a say in
establishing rules and consequences.
provide firm guidance and leadership by
establishing rules and consequences.
Teach students how to attain self
discipline which eliminates the need for
constant corrective action by the teacher.
