Production

The processes and methods used to transform

tangible inputs (raw materials, semi-finished goods,

subassemblies) and intangible inputs (ideas,
information, knowledge) into goods or services.
Resources are used in this process to create an
output that is suitable for use or has exchange value.

Producer

A person who creates economic value,

or produces goods and services. Or a person

responsible for the financial and administrative
aspects of a stage, film, television, or
radio production.

Stages of film production

Film production has 5 phases, all of which are

important to the success of the finished product.

These stages are as follow:
Development
Pre-production
Production
Post-production
Distribution

Development

In this stage, the project producer selects a story,

which may come from a book, play, another

film, true story, video game, comic book, graphic
novel, or an original idea, etc. After identifying a
theme or underlying message, the producer works
with writers to prepare a synopsis. Next they
produce a step outline, which breaks the story down
into one-paragraph scenes that concentrate on
dramatic structure.

Pre-Production

In digital video, photography, television and film,

pre-production refers to the tasks that must be

completed or executed before filming or shooting
begins. This includes tasks such as hiring actors or
models, building sets, budgeting, planning,
scheduling, renting equipment and tests, to name a
few of the many pre-production tasks.

Post-Production

The post production phase refers to the period of

time after the film is shot, but before it is released in

its final form. The process combines editing,
selecting shots to be used, and assembling these
shots in an appropriate order. Attention then turns
to the soundtrack.

Distribution

This is the final stage, where the film is released to

cinemas or, occasionally, to consumer media (DVD,

VCD, VHS, Blu-ray) or direct download from a
provider. The film is duplicated as required for
distribution to cinemas. Press kits, posters, and
other advertising materials are published and the
film is advertised and promoted.
