CUBISM

Cubism is an early 20th century avantgarde art movement that

revolutionized European painting and
sculpture and inspired related
movements in music, literature,
architecture and design. It started
around 1907 mostly by Pablo Picassos
and Georges Braques new style of
painting which transformed everyday
objects, landscapes, and people into
geometric shapes. Because of the
emergence of new technologies like

WHY WAS CUBISM

SO RADICAL
Collier has made his still life look
realistic through
The use of color to help us
recognize the objects
The use of light and dark tones
(shadows and highlights) to
suggest the three-dimensional
quality of the objects.
The use of perspective to create
the impression of a real space
with objects

In Braques painting
The object and background blend
into each other
Fragmented the whole image into
tiny flat geometric shapes.
The lack of usage of realistic
colors
