Fuselage skin sheet with medium strength
but excellent damage tolerance
and
corrosion properties.
Potentially replace traditionally used 2xxx
alloys such as 2024 T3 as a drop-in solution
without change of the structural design.

Decomposition of supersaturated Al-Sc

solid solutions leads to the formation of
the fully coherent, L12Al3Sc phase
Al3Sc has a small elastic misfit with the
aluminum matrix so the strengthening
phase is highly resistant to diffusional
growth and coarsening at elevated
temperatures.

SUMMARY
Aleris plant located in Koblenz, Germany, is one of the worlds leading facilities for
high-quality rolled aluminum plate.
Aleris produce plates, sheets and coils of AlMgSc Alloy AA5028-HH16
Al3Sc has a small elastic misfit with the aluminum matrix so the strengthening phase is
highly resistant to diffusional growth and coarsening at elevated temperatures.
AlMgSc Alloy AA5028-HH16 has greater potential than baseline material AA2024, is the
perfet material for lighter weight and significant cost reduction, offers t least 4%
weight saving even without design change (drop-in)
