GRIMMSS FAIRY TALE

Grimms fairy tales are a collection of German fairy tales, first published in 1812,
and have been described as one of the founding works of western culture

Hitler praised them as folkish tales showing children with sound racial
instincts seeking racially pure marriage partners, and so strongly that the
Allied forces warned against them
The Grimm brothers created a wide variety of fairy tales; but the most
well known are: Rapunzel, Cinderella, Snow White and Hansel and Gretel

ANGELA CARTER FAIRY TALES

Angela Carter's short stories challenge the way women are represented
in fairy tales, yet retain an air of tradition and convention through her
characterisation. For example, in the opening tale "The Bloody Chamber"
which is a retelling of Bluebeard, Carter plays with the conventions of
canonical fairy tales; instead of the heroine being rescued by the
stereotypical male hero, she is rescued by her mother.
The Bloody Chamber, which has been extensively studied in universities
over the past decade, apparently elicits furious hostility from a significant
number of students, who are outraged when they recognise the bedtime
stories of their childhood newly configured as tales of sex and violence.
She knew from the start that she was drawn to "Gothic tales, cruel tales,
tales of wonder, tales of terror, fabulous narratives that deal directly with
the imagery of the unconscious".

The book tells the story of a married couple called Sarah and

Angus, who after the death of one of their twin daughter

Lydia, decide to move to Scotland
Once there, the remaining twin chillingly reveals that she is
in fact Lydia, and Kirstie, who her parents believe she is , is
the one who actually died
Angus and Sarah are faced with the question of which twin
actually died. Was it Lydia or Kirstie ?

HOW WE WILL USE THE THREE BOOKS

AS INSPIRATION FOR OUR OPENING ?
Using both the Grimms stories, which are traditional and conventional and

Angela Carters twisted versions of fairy tales, conforming to the thriller genre,
our voiceover will retain the tradition of the Grimm stories once upon a time
rhetoric, but will add the suspense and the darkness, we will take inspiration
from Angela Carters stories and involve shock surprises that will contribute to
the thriller genre, such as ambiguity to who the evil twin really is .
Additionally, the ambiguity of the opening scene links our opening to the ice
Twins as like Sarah and Angus much figure out which daughter is alive and
which daughter is dead, the audience determine who is really the evil twin, or
if they will immediately assume based on appearance.
