Behind YOUCAT
You know how it feels to be sick. Perhaps you
have been so sick you could hardly move.
Sickness limits our power to live. Depending
on what kind of sickness is involved, it can also
spread to others and harm them. Sin is a kind
of sickness. As the body doesnt function well
when its sick, so the soul doesnt operate
correctly when we have sinned. But unlike
physical sickness, which may or may not be
something were responsible for, sin is a
sickness we bring on ourselves.

YOU Chat
1. Do you experience any burdens in your life?
Do you long to be completely unburdened,
renewed in strength, and have a clean, new
page in the book of your life? Do you think
frequent confession is worth a try?
2. How does one make a good examination of
conscience?
3. Does Jesus really want to heal you? Why does
he not just heal everybody in one swoop? For
whom did he institute the sacraments of the
Anointing of the Sick?
YOU Reflect
When Jesus began his public mission, he said: Repent and
believe in the gospel (Mk 1:15). The call to follow Christ is a
call to turn away from ourselves and our sins, and toward the
one who brings the Gospel the Good News of salvation and
forgiveness. You can leave the old self behind and turn to
Jesus by the power of the sacrament of Penance, which gives
us the grace to examine ourselves, confess our sins, and
experience forgiveness and reconciliation with God our
Father. We are strengthened to stay true to our good
intentions and leave ways of sin behind. Our God is
merciful; he knows our need, and he wants to heal us in all
the ways we need healing. We need to cast our cares upon
the Lord and use those powerful sacraments he gave for our
everlasting benefit.
YOU Challenge
Confess: At least once a month, take advantage of
the sacrament of Penance to renew your sould and
your strength, to lay claim to the mercy of Jesus.
Examine: Begin today to commit five minutes
each day to an examination of conscience. There
are probably some helpful booklets in the back of
your parish church to walk you through this time of
reflection. Or else you can ask your pastor or youth
minister for help.
Pray: Each day this week, pray for those who are
sick and those who are dying.
