OVERVIEW
Preterm is defined as babies born alive before 37 weeks
of pregnancy are completed. There are sub-categories of
preterm birth, based on gestational age:
extremely preterm (24-30 weeks) very preterm (31-36
weeks) moderate to late preterm (37-38 weeks).
Low birth weight has been defined as weight at birth of
less than 2,500 grams (5.5 pounds).
Low birthweight : < 2500 g Very low birthweight:
<1500 g Extremely low birthweight: <1000 g
OVERVIEW
Why does preterm birth
happen?
Preterm birth occurs for a variety of reasons 50%
spontaneously, 30% due to premature rupture of
membranes & 20% made on maternal or fetal indications
Trigger factors of preterm birth include multiple
pregnancies, infections, ante partum haemorhage, deformity of
the uterus, maternal systemic disease, premature rupture of
membranes, fetal abnormalities, maternal age, height and
weight of the mother, socioeconomic level, race, antenatal care,
smoking, sexual intercourse, previous obstetric history, alcohol
consumption, patterns of maternal diet, stress, & iatrogenic
DISCUSSION

Ni Wayan just entering early adolescence (13 years old),


because it is still in the age range 9-13 years.
The victim gave birth to her first child at 28 weeks of
gestation very premature .
Infants with a birth weight 600 gr and a body length 21 cm
extreme low weight, because it has a weight of less
than 1,000 grams (Manuaba, 2007).
This case can be classified as unwanted pregnancies.
Risks arising from unwanted pregnancy risks including
physical, social, economic, and psychological.
Trigger factors of preterm birth stress, maternal
age, socioeconomic conditions, maternal
knowledge, and antenatal care.
