This is particularly noted in sealed buildings with centrally-
controlled, mechanical ventilation. Associated conditions include
allergies, infections, Legionnaires disease, and worsening of
asthma because of air-borne irritants. This highlights the
importance of breathing fresh, clean air.

Most people are
shallow breathers,
using only the
lower portion of
their lungs.

Fill your life with28

In order to have good blood, we must
breathe well. Full, deep inspirations of pure
air which fill the lungs with oxygen, purify
the blood. They impart to it a bright color,
and send it, a life giving current, to every
part of the body. A good respiration soothes
the nerves; it stimulates the appetite and
renders digestion more perfect; and it
induces sound refreshing sleep.

Diaphragmatic Breathing
Stretch your arms high above your
head.
Breathe in slowly with mouth
closed.
Expand chest as much as possible
and continue to breathe in. Take
one more whiff of air.
With mouth open, let out all air
while slowly bending over. Cough
to get last bit of air out.
Repeat 5-10 every morning.

Dr. Mervyn Hardinge,
Hardinge dean emeritus of the LLU
School of Public Health, states that posture can

He gives these five

It is essential to ensure

especially for the brain.
Avoid stuffy enclosed
