Film production is known as The process of

making a film
As said in the video, there are three different
stages to this, Pre-Production, Production and Post-
Production
PRE -PRODUCTION
Pre-Production is what happens before a
production can be filmed, for example, the research
and the planning that goes on before filming.
This short clip suggests why Pre-Production is
important before filming:

PRODUCTION
In Media, Production is referred to as The Making and Filming of a
piece
Here are some questions on the technology used in Production:
When was the first colour film released?
1910? 1912? 1914?
How many countries have IMAX screening
cinemas?
69? 70? 71?
When was a boom mic first made?
1919? 1929? 1939?
ANSWERS
1912

1929
POST-PRODUCTION
This part of production is what happens
afterwards, this is the longest segment of the
production stage and is where a lot of the
technologies for production occur.

Green screen- This is a way for the actor to be anywhere in the world for the sake of the
movie, this was much cheaper than actually going to the place as before it was extremely
costly to move lots of the equipment etc. to the sight. With the introduction of this it
created many opportunities to make a film become more imaginative and less cost
effective.
Camera

Computer generated imagery(CGI)- This is used in many films today

The dolly and Steadicam- allows camera to move along steadily, without creating a
shaking motion. This would be used for a when people are moving along and the camera
needs to follow them along a track.
Sound- boom mic was created to create clearer sound for viewers.

AND NOW
Computer generated imagery(CGI)- This is used in many films today. The re-make of Godzilla in

2014 was created very different to the original, this was because Godzilla was created entirely
by CGI, this allowed them to make the monster much more realistic looking, become more
mobile, and make a more action packed film for the viewers. The original however, did not
involve CGI and green screen at all, it was made by having to build a small scale version of a
city to be demolished, this took approximately a couple months and was extremely costly to do.
Godzilla himself was created by clay but was originally thought to be done in stock motion but
would take too long with the past recourses. In the new one, they just used CGI to create the
fire and explosions on the buildings, but the original had to create a small scale version of the
city and make a Godzilla slightly larger than the city in order to make him look larger than the
buildings. Technology for filming has changed hugely from back in 1954 in the original to 2014
and is still continuing to grow with each film, making CGI look more realistic and continue to
create a success in a film.

Post- Production is part of the process of

filmmaking, video production, and photography and
is where the material comes to life.
You would likely to see Post- Production in the
making of motion pictures, television programs,
radio programs, advertising, audio recordings,
photography, and digital art.
PROCESSES
Post Production has many different processes. Listed below are the
five different processes.
- Visual Sound Affects.
Writing, recording and editing the soundtrack.

Sound Design, Sound Effects, ADR, Foley and Music.

Video editing the picture of a television program using an edit

decision list
Transfer of colour motion picture film to video or DPX with a
telecine and colour grading
AN IMAGE OF A VIDEO EDITING
SUITE
Post- Production can take several months to
complete and takes more time than filming. Post
Production includes editing, colour correction and
music.
