Justification of Final logo design

William Hall & Sam Baxter & Chris Haisell

Final Logo Design
Font Choice and Why?
For a final logo we decided to go with Arial
Black as our font of choice. The reason
behind this was that It is a Sans Serif font
style and would allow us to keep the same
sleek modernistic tone, which the BBC likes
to maintain throughout its channels.

Colour Choice and Why?

When deciding on a colour scheme we had a long decisive conversation on what colours we
should use within the logo as we wanted to keep the channels formal approach. After debating
we concluded that a Black and White scheme would be the best option as it would allow us to
keep the formality of the channel and also it could be seen to represent the channels non-
biased content.

We decided Black would be the best option for our logo design as it shows the
channels formality and more factual side, which is why we didn'tt use the colour red that
is normally associated with the BBC. However we haven't decided to ignore the use of
colour RED as it is iconic within BBC One. Therefore we plan to incorporate it within
the background of our Ident instead and not in the Logo as we thought that the use of RED
would not represent the formality of the channel hence the choice of black in the logo,
which is associated with formality.
Size Choice and Why?
The logo is sized by the measurement of
pixels. Our BBC One logo measures at 800
x 294 pixels, we chose this size due to
previous BBC One logos being that size.
We matched the previous size because
this is what the BBC use and this logo is
being designed for their use purely.

What makes it a good logo?

To be a good logo the logo must be classed as successful. In order to be successful it must both fit
the target audience of the channel and the channels ethos. Most logos that are classed as
successful are normally very bright bold and attractive to draw in an audience and keep them
stuck to their designated channels. Whilst others aim to display a message when using their
logos.

The logo design also incorporates the globe. This is significant as the BBC was the first channel to
be aired globally and it continues to do so in the current times. For this reason we used a globe
within our logo. As well as what has been previously mentioned the design fits the channels
corporate identity by maintaining a formal approach whilst displaying other aspects of the
channel such as the global airing.
