Managing Learning
A teacher should have the skills to
create a learning environment that
encourages collaboration among
students in the classroom so that the
learning process meaningful and
productive.
As a manager of learning, teachers are
responsible for:
Planning, organizing, directing & controlling
T&L

Before students get to the classroom, the teacher


needs lesson plan.
The plans break down the steps for every lesson
the teacher uses for instruction to ensure all
learning objectives are met.
Lesson plans also help the teacher stay organized
while teaching.
The lessons a teacher creates provide the
framework for instructing students and giving them
practice on the new skills they learn.
Example:
When conducting a lesson, as a teacher we
should have the skill on managing the classroom.
Planning we plan the lesson and activities
according the students level.
Organizing able to organize the materials, and
activities.
Directing able to conduct or execute the planned
activity well.

Manage the physical environment
Manage physical environment in terms of
Tables and chairs set furniture keep changing the sitting
arrangement to gain attention
E.g.: promote collaboration
classroom temperature create a comfortable environment for
learning
Lighting- sufficient brightness to cater all students
Landscaping space, decoration, materials
E.g.: display students work, bulletin board for all subjects (21 st
century)
E.g.: accessing and analyzing information
Safety equipment (physical safety of the classroom) fire
extinguisher, First Aid Kit
Manage the classroom
involves rules and routines of handling classroom
It helps students learn the appropriate behavior, and it
provides you with an opportunity to determine whether
they understand and can follow a procedure correctly.
to prevent the students from misbehavior
e.g.: raise hand before answering or asking questions,
clean the classroom before the lesson starts
E.g. : using traffic light system (21st century)
Manage the psychosocial environment
ensure the learning environment is friendly
build self-confidence among students
E.g. : reward system
E.G.: Parking lots (21st century)
create feeling of unconditional acceptance
E.g. : counseling & motivation
create mutual respect among students and teachers
e.g.: democratic classroom involve the students in
creating classroom rules
Manage the process of assessment
Teachers should have high personal qualities
be competence in pedagogy and content
positive attitude
Providing questions examination (assess on what we
taught),
Administering examination (follow procedures not
bias)
Monitoring (monitor the students progress),
record keeping and reporting pupil achievement
(prepare the report card, monthly score sheet)
