Audience Research

Introduction
I have carried out some audience research in order to find what
my target audience want to see in a Hip Hop magazine. The way I
carried this out was through a questionnaire to find out what type
of audience they were and what they would like. The first 4
questions were asking about the audience so I can see who would
buy my magazine and the next 6 questions were asking what
they would prefer to see in a magazine. This questionnaire will
help me gain an idea of what articles to include in my magazine.
Most of the answers are one worded/ yes or no, so it was easy to
collect data. But for question 8 I asked people to chose what kind
of images they prefer out of three and question 10 I asked people
what types of freebies they would want. I used all of this data to
put into a tally chart and pie chart for a visual representation of
what the majority of my audience wants. I will be explaining why I
choose these questions and what I have understood from them.

Question 1
I asked people what gender they
were to find out whether my
Gender audience would be predominately
male or female. From this
information I can see they are more
females however I feel this
Male percentage will not end up being
Female my target audience. I think I should
have asked more males to fill out
my questionnaire, as I think my
target audience for my Hip Hop
magazine would end up being more
males than females. This is because
there are more male artists within
hip hop than females therefore
enticing more males. Also Hip Hop
is known for being more hard
sounding and fast which is
stereotypically more appealing to
 Question 2
I asked people their age so I would
get an idea of my target audience
Age and how old people would be that
read my magazine. So I can get an
understanding of what articles and
images would appeal to my target
16 years old
audience. The results show the
17 years old majority of my audience will be 16-
18 years old 17 year olds. I do agree with these
results however I do feel my target
audience would also include people
older than 18, up to 25 and people
younger than 16, like 15. I do think I
should have asked people from
outside of college to complete from
questionnaire to get information
from a range of ages. From these
results I will be writing articles and
taking images that I think would
appeal to a young audience. The
 Question 3
I asked a question about ethnicity to
find out what backgrounds people
Ethnicity who would read my magazine
would be from. From asking this
question I would know what
ethnicities I should chose to model
for my images to attract more
White
people. The results show that my
Asian
White and Black target audience will be commonly
white. I do partially agree with this,
although I do know that many
artists within hip hop are black, this
is because Hip hop was established
by African-Americans. However
there are now more modern artists
of different ethnicities such as DJ
khaled and Eminem attracting an
Asian and white audience. From
these results I would make sure to
have models of black and Asian
 Question 4
I asked if the people who did my
questionaire if they did part-time
Part- time work work or not, to help me decide
the price of the magazine. The
results shows that over half of
the people do work part-time.
Using the results I know that I
