What is Line Symmetry?
When you reflect a figure over a line and the figure appears to be
unchanged. This would be called a reflection symmetry or line
symmetry. The line used to reflect is called a line of symmetry; it
divides a figure into two mirror image halves.

Line Symmetries can be used in logos, flags, nature, and in any kind
of figure depending on its shape.For example the parallelogram
below does not have a line of symmetry.
What is Rotational Symmetry?
When a figure is rotated less than a full turn and still has the same
shape. It can be rotated into three positions and it will stay the
same.

As well as line symmetry, rotational symmetries can also be used in

logos, flags, nature, and in other figures. The figures on the bottom
left do ot have rotational symmetry.
A Special Case
A circle is a perfect shape;
it has unlimited lines of
symmetry along with
rotational symmetry.
 How is Line & Rotational Symmetry
Important?
Symmetry plays a role in pattern formation. Patterns in nature
contain some form of symmetry in space or in time.
It is used to classify and organize info about patterns of both its
structure and process.
Symmetry in nature represents the center of balancing two or
more opposing sides.
It maintains equal proportions and organizations.
How is it Important in Logos?
The understanding of how the basic shapes work gives a subtle
and substantial reinforcement to a logo so that it aligns with its
message.

A circle in a logo may represent groups, global organizations,

governmental organizations.

Symmetry preserves distances, angles, sizes, and shapes.
