Pacific(AICS) believes in maintaining safe
and healthy working conditions in the
practicals, for our students.
However, to achieve our goal of providing a
safe workplace, each student must be
safety conscious.
We expect each student to follow the
policies and procedures, to act safely, and
to report unsafe conditions to his or her
respective subject teacher or at the
reception in a timely manner.
Students are expected to continually be on
the lookout for unsafe working conditions or
practices. If you observe an unsafe
condition, you should warn others, if
possible, then report that condition to you
respective teacher.
If you observe a colleague using an unsafe
practice, you are expected to mention this
to the colleague and to your teacher.
Safety at practical is a team effort.

We expect students to establish and maintain a safe


workplace. This includes but is not limited to the following
applications.
Keep equipments and machinery clean and in good
operating condition.
Store flammable or combustible materials in the right
containers away from the heat source.
Keep work areas clean and free of debris.
Clean and /or report all spills.
Do not fool around with knives and sharp tools.
If any breakage, do not try to pick up the broken glasses
with your hand, instead use a broom and dust pan.
Always ensure that the gas valve is closed when not in
need.
Have a daily bath or shower using anti-
bacterial soaps.
Shampoo your hair regularly.
Use mild anti-perspirant deodorants and

powders.
Hair:
Maintain a neat, conservative and well
trimmed hair style at all times.
Hair must be cut straight at the back and
must not be coloured or tinted.
Hair must not touch the collar at the back or
the ears at the sides.
Side burns are not permitted
Face:
A clean, neat shaved look must be

maintained at all times.


Accessories:
A conservatively designed watch may be worn.

The strap must be in steel, silver, Gold or


leather.
Spectacles with bright coloured frames are not

permitted at work. A simple frame in black or


metal is permitted
Bracelets are not allowed

Religious threads should not be visible below

the cuffs (not preferred for kitchen practical's).


Gentlemen are not permitted to wear earrings.
Shoes:
Shoes must be of a simple design, well

polished and not frayed at the edges.


Socks must conform to subjective standards

on color and fabric. They must be changed


and washed daily.
Hands:
Hands must be manicured, clean and free of

stains at all times. Wash your hands


frequently.
Nails should be short and kept clean.

Name tags:
Name tags should be worn at all times while

in college.
Hair:
Your hair must be well cut in a neat style that
suits your face and personality. It must be neat,
tidy and well secured at all times in college.
Fringes are not permitted. Short wispy hair on
the crown and baby hair must be held in places.
Hair longer than shoulder length must be pulled
back in a neat bun, secured at the back of the
head slightly above the nape. A plain, black hair
net is recommended for hair that is tied back.
All hair accessories must be simple and in black
color.
Make up:
Make up should be worn at all times while at

college (except for practicals of kitchen).


Your make-up should be chosen and applied

to compliment your skin tone and give you


a well groomed look.
Ladies must apply eye make up as well. Eye

liners should be black.


Nails must be trimmed and well maintained

with out any nail enamel.


Accessories:
Students are recommended not to use
expensive accessories.
Only one stud/ earring per ear is permitted
while in college. Earring must be
conservatively designed, and not too large.
Earrings are not permitted in the practical
classes.
Spectacles with bright coloured frames are
not permitted at work. A simple frame in
black or metal is permitted
Footwear:
Shoes should be well fitted, polished and

not frayed at the edges.


Stockings / socks must conform to

departmental standards on colour, length


and fabric.

Name tags:
Name tags should be worn at all times while

in college.

To protect chef from the physical dangers

Modern Light weight textiles
Double breasted to protect from the chest and
stomach from the heat from ovens and stoves,
and from burns and scalds.
Protects from spillage of hot liquid on to the
upper body
The sleeves should be worn to the wrist for
protection to the arms from burns
Lightweight cotton or mixed material and
Teflon coated fabric
Should not be worn tight-fitting to the leg
Should not be worn tight fitting for comfort
The first line of protection
Any difference in colour can be relevant to
the operation
Must be worn to below the knees to protect
the legs
