Meaning of Reading Bhagavad-Gita is:
not mere recitation of the verses
Stretching Praana produced as sound
OM up to BhrahmaRandhram (is the
subtle centre of head / core of
intelligence) via Sushumna and
merging in the SUPREME SELF
By the above process the limited
energy (ordinary being) transforms as
limitless energy GOD

(Praana) traversing above and beyond the
physical and mental planes to spiritual plane,
ones own small self (i) turns all favourable
supreme self (I- Omni potent & Omni
present)
Downward thrust of the same vital force
(Praana) by turning and outwards tending
towards physical and mental planes turns
against to ones own SELF

Satva ( pious / broad ), Rajas ( Aggressive /
restless ) & Tamas ( cruel / narrow / lethargic )
characters of the mind form due to the up/in and
down/out vibrations of the Praana (vital force)
Maaya the illusion is nothing but the formation due
to the combination of the triad ( Satva Rajas
Tamas )
Crossing beyond the illusion of the triad ( Satva
Rajas Tamas ) is possible by the merger of Praana
(vital force) completely in the Bhroomadhya
(center of the forehead) through the practice of
Praanayaam (Stretching of vital force from the
bottom up to top)
3/17/17 22
Foreword continued22
Cause of all diseases is Kapham (Cholesterol)
Yogaagni (Fire from the Yogam / Praanaayam)
is the extinguisher of Kapham, thus it is the
remedy for all diseases
Bliss and ignorance are the resultants of the
level of mental energy
Friction between Praana (upward thrust of the
life force) and Apaana (downward thrust of the
life force) lights up bliss and eradicates
darkness of ignorance completely at its peak
level

3/17/17 23
Foreword continued23
Vibration of the Praana (vital force) is the
cause of fickleness of the mind
Cessation of the vibration of the praana
(vital force) is the key to liberation
Customary Pooja (offerings), Stotra (praise),
Japa (chanting), meditation (physical
silence) are not the means to liberation
The 18 chapters of the Bhagavadgeeta
have not meant 18 different pathways to
salvation

3/17/17 24
Foreword continued24

Geetaa Saaram...1
(Essence of Bhagavadgita)

Humans aspire for comforts at all times by the

very nature
All his efforts are always directed towards
accomplishing comforts yet unable to achieve the
perpetual state of comfort
Every comfort is accompanied by grief always
There has been continuous struggle by the
intelligent to achieve state of comfort that is
devoid of grief.
The pursuit of getting rid of the vicious circle of
birth and death filled with alternating comfort and
grief is termed as the path to salvation/liberation

3/17/17 29
Geetaa Saaram...2
(Essence of Bhagavadgita)

Liberation or Salvation: The state of Happiness

that is beyond the state of pleasure that
alternates with predominant state of pain
Rishis (Saints) blessed the mankind with various
paths in the form of several hymns in spiritual
texts
Lord Srikrishna clarified that the path to the state
of bliss is formed as two approaches namely
Yogam and Jnaanam in the Bharata Samhita

Hymn: Bhagavadgita 3-3

Lokesmin Dvividhaa Nishthaa Puraa Proktaa Mayaanagha
Jnaanayogena Saamkhyaanam Karmayogena Yoginaam ||

3/17/17 30
Geetaa Saaram...3
(Essence of Bhagavadgita)
By this its clear that Lord Srikrishna declined any
other approaches by giving preference to Yogam and
Jnaanam. It is very difficult to comprehend and
practice the approach of Jnaanam for any normal
human that is entangled in vicious worldly
avocations.
Most people are unable to achieve the liberation from
the relapsing pleasures and pains of life through the
approach of Jnaanam, due to the distraction of the
human mind in many ways.
Hymn: from Vedanta Pamchadasi
Bahuvyakula Chitaanaam Vichaarattatvadheernahi
Yogomukhyastarasteshaam Dheedarpastena Nasyati

3/17/17 31
Geetaa Saaram...4
(Essence of Bhagavadgita)

Self knowledge cant be comprehended by

pondering about it while mind is troubled in
many worries
Learned people emphasized that, human mind
cant abstain from avocation even for a moment
Nahi Kaschit Khanamapi Jaatu
Tishthatyakarmakrut ref. Bhagavadgita
One has to bear the consequences having
indulged in actions
One continuous to be in the birth-death cycle
thus
Mind that is habituated to actions, is incapable
of retraction from the tendency to act, and
3/17/17 32
hence cant attain the ultimate state of bliss
Geetaa Saaram...5
(Essence of Bhagavadgita)
Hence it was made evident that practice of Yogam is the
preferred approach to win over egoistic mind as referred to in
Vedanta Panchadasi and in Bhagadgita Karmayogena
Yoginaam as emphasized by Lord Srikrishna
It doesnt mean to totally deny Jnaana path
It is easier and possible to regulate the highly distracted mind
by the practice of Yogam which is the act of balancing the
breath in both nostrils that represent the opposite vital forces
Praana and Apaana leading to concentration of the mind
resulting in refinement of the impurities in intelligence.
Such pure intellect has the capacity to comprehend the Self
Knowledge required to attain the state of bliss that is beyond
the states of ever changing experience of pains and pleasures
It is similar to the technique of running rope through the
nostrils of a mighty bull to control and utilize its power as
desired in farming etc.

3/17/17 33
Geetaa Saaram...6
(Essence of Bhagavadgita)

Yogam is the practice of Pranaayaam to cleanse

the mind and orient it towards Self-Knowledge
Lord Srikrishna blessed the mankind by his
graceful gift of elucidation about the practice of
Praanaayam through his beloved disciple and a
great warrior Arjuna
Approach of Jnaana is useful for enlightenment
for One who attains the state of clean intellect
(unbiased) and a detached mind by the virtuous
living of over several lifetimes
The path of Yogam is useful for every common
human, where as the path of Jnaanam caters to
the exceptional humans with extraordinary
intellectual and detached minds
3/17/17 34
Geetaa Saaram...7
(Essence of Bhagavadgita)
According to the line from Karmayogam, Bandhanam
Manaso Nityam Karmayogassa uchyate it isto be known
that the practice that stabilizes the mind is Praanaayaam
Any act of involving the body, mind, life force etc. is
termed as Karma
It is justified to term Praanaayam as Karmayogam
because it also involves actions of the body, mind, life
force etc.
A person practicing Yogam accomplishes the detached
state of mind is termed Yogi, and his actions in the
course of life are termed Nishkaama Karma as were
performed without motives whose bearing of fruits
(success/failure) are no matter of concern to the actor
involved
Hence a Yogi is the one not bound by his actions and
consequences is known as Liberated and Enlightened by35
3/17/17
the knowledge of SELF
Geetaa Saaram...8
(Essence of Bhagavadgita)
Hymn: Baswarajna Ratnateeka to the Haradutta Gankaarika
Praanaayaama Visuddhaatmaa Yasmaatpasyati Tatparam
Tasmaannatah Paramkimchit Praanaayaamaa Ditisruteh
Mind is cleansed by practice of Praanaayaam and is capable of
visualizing the Paramaatma (The Supreme SELF)
It is explained in Bhagavadgita also that cleansing (concentration)
and winning over cravings of the mind and actions by the body
organs are attained by the practice of Yogam (Praanaayaam)
Hymn: Ref. Bhagavadgita 5-7
Yogayukto Visuddhaatmaa Vijitaatmaa Jitendriyah
A Yogi that masters practice of Praanaayaam attains cleansed
mind that is devoid of biases and Equanimeous vision.
First hand Imperience (Feeling the omnipotence and omnipresence
of the non-dual SUPREME SELF within) is Equanimeous vision
This is also known as WISDOM.
Self knowledge from the study, understanding and experience in
duality is ordinary
