ANTI-BULLYING STRATEGIES

Cheyonna Edwards

Introductory

My name is Cheyonna Edwards and my project is anti-bullying

strategies. I

selected this topic because the strategies that are currently used such
as (school

uniform, rules, talking things out with parents) are not working. From
this project I

worked to find strategies that work and find out what I need to do to
help .
Thesis statement

Even though some people believe that school anti-bullying programs

are putting an end to bullying, it is getting worse and intentional and

holistic strategies are needed because requiring school uniforms do not

solve the issue and education alone does not prevent bullying.
Argument 1
Bullying in schools is not getting better, it Bullying includes actions such as making threats,

purpose.
Argument 2

School uniform and similar strategies do not prevent bullying alone.

I spent six of those years in a strict uniform, and I

can safely say that uniforms do not prevent kids
from bullying each other. Teachers assume that if
everyone wears the same thing, no one can make
fun of each other for what they wear. That may be
true, but your clothes are not who you are.
Uniforms cant hide your personality. Being bullied
is just as likely when you are in uniform as when
you arent in uniform. Uniforms dont make
everyone the same. They just make everyone look
the same. Theres a difference, and not everyone

have been victim of, and witness to.
Argument 2 cont

One method used to reduce school bullying is

requiring students to wear school uniforms.

Uniforms were meant to play a vital role in

reducing peer pressure and in raising the level of

acceptability.

Based on research, the implementation of school

uniforms has not reduced bullying. In actuality,

school uniforms do not stop bullying and may

Argument 3
Another strategy used to stop and reduce bullying is Schools must communicate information about

education about bullying. bullying via staff meetings, assemblies, class

and parent meetings, newsletters to families,

However, education does not prevent bullying in the
school website, and have the policy written in

needed.

Without intentional strategies, education alone

Before true education about bullying can even begin,
does not work.
the school must establish a culture of tolerance,

safety, and respect.

Other reasons why the current practices do not work

includes:
the zero tolerance theory backfires

avoiding social media is not a solution

we do not address bullying with real experts

we forget that the bully and the bullied are both children

we neglect adult bullying

Call to Action

One way to begin the approach and to help school programs be more successful is by focusing on the prevention of bullying at school.

Schools will need to first, assess bullying at their school. Schools could create an assessment and share it with the students to determine how

often bullying occurs,

They could start by launching awareness programs and thus work to engage parents and youth.

. The whole school will have to work towards a mission and code of conduct, thus building a safe environment. From here, the school must

provide continuous education.

Then implement an anonymous reporting component allowing those who are being bullied to have a safe way to express and share what they

are experiencing.

The anonymous reporting component could help end bullying. One of the biggest problems with bullying is the fear of reporting the

bullying.
Personal reflection

When I was growing up my skin tone was

always a problem to other kids they
always focused on how black I was . OR
why i was so black . I made myself feel
good by trying to make myself feel pretty
I run to my mother and tell her thing that
kids used to say to me she just say well
Cheyonna black is beautiful this project
has a reflection on me because i'm not
the only one who was bullied .
